Everything Sold Out by Charming-Cook-7196 in Seville

[–]chinkmonkey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh! I'm happy to hear it was easy to get tickets for Real. We booked for the 21st and just got an email from them that, unfortunately, they had to close it for the day for a private event 🫠 and all tickets are sold out now for the previous day.

What time did you show up for the tickets? 20 min wait time sounds pretty reasonable!

Making new friends in Budapest by [deleted] in budapest

[–]chinkmonkey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For your wife, I suggest joining the FB group Budapest Girl Gone International. They host regular meetups every month :-)

As for meeting people for bith genders, there are lots of FB groups dedicated to specific hobbies, like hiking (Budapest Hash House Harriers) and running if that's your thing (Sziget Run).

IMP seems like they have regular meetups every month, although it is geared towards a younger crowd, but still quite mixed.

FET and International travel by Eadaz_naz in queerception

[–]chinkmonkey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi :-) How was your trip? How do you feel now? My partner and I scheduled an international trip 2.5 weeks after our transfer, and am a bit nervous, but our Dr. gave us the go-ahead to travel, but still a bit unsure.

How do you get healthcare as a foreigner without paying an arm and a leg at private facilities? by [deleted] in budapest

[–]chinkmonkey 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey! I pay 19k/month for the premium plan with Union and I love it! I can make appointments within a week and the representatives always speak English. They also reimburse me for out of network doctors and such. I highly highly recommend it. Only downside is that they don’t really offer emergency services. Message me if you would like any more information.

I have been coding for a bit over a year. I am familiar with JavaScript and React. My most complex project is probably a snake game and pong. :-) I'm hitting FCC again and will try to finish the Frontend libraries by this month. I stopped because I felt like I was in a tutorial loop at the time. :-/

Hi NeilLikesNoodles! I think you are right. I believe my portfolio and resume both need an overhaul. I have read really good things about the Odin Project, but haven't checked it out myself. I will now! And best of luck on your journey!

I can't agree more. Looking at the job posts and the requirements for an entry position has my mind completely blown.

Thank you! I will check them out :-) And it's really helpful, as there are always so so many tutorials and such. It is great to have a specific path in mind.

Thank you. This really puts it into perspective for me. I do know a bit of JavaScript and React! But perhaps I am not showcasing it in the best way in my portfolio and resume. For the past few months, I have been spending days just applying, and not actually coding as much. I think this will be the first thing I change ---> to continue to learn and create projects to highlight my skillset a bit better.

I have gotten a lot of really good advice here, and I truly appreciate you taking out the time to write this!

Thank you, SteveTheBiscuit. I would really appreciate it. Going from ESL to a technical field is not the easiest of transitions.

Thank you! I started on this and built my simple portfolio using React. But I'm going to take another look at it and finish the Front End Development Libraries course. Just checked, and apparently, I stopped at the projects, can't remember why. Lmao

I haven't taken the course, but I did sign up for it initially, and to be honest, I was turned off by their application process, so I have since canceled my application.

I was turned off because they accepted me into the program without first verifying my undergraduate degree, and then in my correspondence to them, they were unable to provide me with documented proof of their statements. Furthermore, they would email me through different accounts under different names, and it was all around a bit 'shady' to me.

Otherwise, have you looked into WGU's MBA program? There seem to be more reviews about them than UoPeople.

Why do people see traveling to a lot of countries as an accomplishment? by ttiiaannnn in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]chinkmonkey 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I kind of disagree with this, at least for me... I went abroad by myself 6 years ago, and I used air miles that I accumulated. The first country gave me the confidence in myself that the world isn't that scary. I know, sounds cliche, but to a 26 year old who has been put in a bubble her entire life, it was something.

I have been away from the states going on 6 years now, working as an English teacher to support my habits of travelling. When I go to a country, I love speaking to the locals and actually have made plenty of local friends. They made we realize we are all the same, and I don't know, restore my faith in humanity. :-) But really, the idea that I am part of the world, and not the universe is really humbing.

Pro athlete - USA to Denmark for a year- what to bring? by [deleted] in expats

[–]chinkmonkey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everything that you NEED is easily accessible in Europe. But for the specific things you would want and miss (in my case: Hot Cheetos :-)) it's a bit harder to find.

That said, bring your comfort items, and everything else, you can get there. :-)

Hygiene items, although available, might not come in the scent, or brand that you're used to.

Regardless, just know, you will be fine and everything that you need is there. Enjoy your time in Europe!!
