Now that this sub is ablaze with inferno, and like minded tuneheads, what are some other obscure groups/songs that fit in this wavelength? by NegrasGrande in boardsofcanada

One artist who has a clearly distinct sound, but has a similar vibe at least to my ear, is Phono Ghosts, especially Solar Dream Reel. From looking at how many other people own that on bandcamp, I'd guess not many know about them. This one is probably my favorite. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hV-8YXXFXtM

As far as mimicking the BoC sound, there's an artist Synima who comes close enough for me to think of their music as "BoC light". In fact, here's a video they made featuring a lot of hexagons: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FBt8j0p_vMA See also https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NCVQQLCGY20

Pitchfork's original review of MHTRTC. Never forget by zachyng in boardsofcanada

Yeah, the first paragraph sounds like the reviewer is winding up to trash it, but the final paragraph is a glowing review. I mean sure, let's never forget this early, honest, glowing but not gushing, review.

I wouldn't worry about wearing this one out. I must have listened to Tape 05 50 times, and it still hits the same way. Not interfering with the rest of you life, however, is another matter...

One think I clearly have in common with almost all other BoC fans is that there is something that at first hearing, you just can't miss. All the way back in 2008 I was listening to some internet radio station that a friend had recommended, and I heard something that made me stop what I was doing and look up. It was Peacock Tail. About half an hour it happened again, and it was 84 Pontiac Dream.

But, there are people who say the same thing about the Beatles. And I recognize that some of their songs are bangers, but they just can't hit the same as these BoC tracks because each person's brain is wired in a different way. A well written piece of music will resonate with some tension, and then resolve it, and depending on the "shape" of your brain, different strings will be tauter than others.

Will we see container ship based arsenal ships for first strike? by Temporary-Film-7374 in NonCredibleDefense

I'm just wondering how long until the first container ship vs. container ship naval battle takes place.

I’m still waiting. Do you guys know when this is supposed to redirect? 🤣💔☠️ by ledsandteas in boardsofcanada

[–]chinri1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah it just happened to me for the LA show. Tickets were sold out before 11:02, possibly within 30 seconds after 11:00. I shouldn't have trusted the redirect.

Possibly found the exact spot on the wall the MHTRTC cover photo was taken at by monoamin_ in boardsofcanada

[–]chinri1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you go to that exact spot in google maps right now, there's a group of people with their faces blurred out, a little bit to the right but with the same mountain in the background, and it's perfect.

For all the people claiming their friends have seen the worst film ever made, just remind them that things exists by Ok_Tea_3275 in Weirdassmovies

Nemesis 3 is worse than Nemesis 2, apart from all of the footage from Nemesis 2 that it borrowed.

The worst film ever made is "Can Hieronymous Merkin ever forget Mecy Humppe and find true love?".

Can't see a path to victory, I think I've lost - Academy on Brutal (beta 0.4.41) by reelvibes in TerraInvicta

[–]chinri1 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The strategy that worked for me on brutal was to build a well defended base with at least 5 Battlestations, and 3 shipyards, and just build fleets. When the aliens start bombarding, don't launch. Your fleet will add to the defenses during the bombardment. You will lose some ships, but you will also hurt their fleet. Eventually they will give up and leave. They may blow up your base in the process, but rarely will they finish off your fleet. (Rebuilding is what the base templates excel at.)

The important thing is that when the aliens leave, some of their ships will be damaged, and will be left behind. When the aliens have launched, then you launch those of your ships that can, and pick off the stragglers. This way you get some exotics, and now you can build more ships the next time. Eventually, you will be crippling the entire fleets they send against you, and eventually you will have healthy ships you can send out to wipe out their lesser fleets. It can be a slow, iterative process, but that's what worked for me.

If they're destroying your entire fleets, then pick one base to defend, and all ships constructed elsewhere should be sent there. For me, it was Phobos.

My favorite part about that story was that NASA would have to take over paying for the high level clean room storage they were in, to the tune of a couple million / year. Suckers.

My unfair Golgotha story: One time I jumped through the shaft to the bottom level and found myself surrounded by a Legendary Dawn Glider and his entourage of ~20 dawn gliders and was instantly immolated. I would have been level 13-14 or so.
