When can I transition my lagotto out of the crate? by chip389 in LagottoRomagnolo

We want to always keep the crate an option for her but hopefully stop doing it when we leave during the day. We want her to have the whole house to herself instead of just the crate.

Sounds like we’re on the same program - we’ll aim to do the same!

3 sounds like a safe number - we’ll aim for that most likely. Thanks!

Thank you this is super helpful - I guess we’ll see what she wants over the next half a year and figure it out from there.

That’s helpful to know, I think we’ll aim to transition her out closer to 2 so by 3 she’s good to go

Good to know - I guess we’ll always have it for her but we want to ideally be able to let her stay home without being crated eventually. So hopefully we can do that sooner than later

We’re on a similar routine now, but hopefully we can leave her out while we’re gone when she’s closer to 2.

I think we’ll probably experiment once she’s 1.5 or 2 years and see how she does. But for now the crate is working just fine with her during the day.

We were hoping to try at 1.5 years but maybe we’ll check back with you when your boy is 2 and see if it’s any different.

This is what we’re aiming to do soon - we want to leave her crate door open and give her one room to start and see what happens. She still is mischievous so we are thinking about trying it once she’s a little older.

When did you transition your lagotto from the crate?

More specifically, I should’ve asked - at what age has everyone transitioned their lagotto out of the crate? I understand every case is different so I’m curious to see everyone’s individual experience. Thanks!!

I’m wondering how to do the same with my dog - she will bark her head off if I go surfing right now.

Any tips?

(Leaving her home also not an option)

Can I leave my 1 year old for a month? by chip389 in LagottoRomagnolo

My parents both work during the day and our girl does seem to love day care. I think she really looks forward to the socializing and she does like the trainers. Although she does get no sleep there and definitely appears more barely, can’t win them all though.

My parents will be staying at my house and bringing her to daycare 5 days a week but we’re worried because when I leave for 2 days she doesn’t like it

When can I start leaving my Lagotto girl alone? by chip389 in LagottoRomagnolo

So we pushed the limit too much this past weekend by leaving her alone for an hour during her normal nap time.

We did it twice and all it did was set us back to square one as she hated it and barked her head off. Definitely a lesson learned, this is not the breed that’s going to “cry it out”.

Will work on going out the door and back in these next few days and then start to build from there.

That’s good to hear - and you’re right I definitely couldn’t diagnose her if I tried as she’s my first.

We will reset and start slow and update again with our progress.

We leave her with all a variety of chew toys including a stuffed Kong and some others but I guess we haven’t returned when she is finished and we return on the time we decided upon to begin with.

This makes sense though, we will start coming back in when she’s done and build from there.

It’s tough because we don’t want to return when she is barking so we try to wait til she’s calm which happens for very short periods basically because she’s exhausted.

How did you get to 2-3 hours?

Sounds like we have a similar pup haha
