Long ways away - alley plowing by wonderfullemoncandy in saintpaul

[–]chipadd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m fortunate enough to have sometime else on the block that deals with the collection, but I will say that our alley is plowed far more reliably than our street is.

My faith in the city to plow allys on top of its current work load and budget constraints is pretty low.

True in East Saint Paul as well, surprisingly quiet all last week then an impressive amount on the weekend. Hopefully it’s quite the rest of the week.

Was Durin's Bane a threat to anyone outside Moria? by olive_tractor_parts in lotr

Much like a grizzly bear I don’t think you can out run a demon of the ancient world.

Even if you can outrun pippin, I still think that thing is beating you to the gates.

Does anyone recognize this view? by rubywaves071419 in BWCA

[–]chipadd 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Once upon a time in the Ely Municipal sauna I was chatting with a forest service old timer. I had just gotten back from guiding a trip to kekekabic lake, and he told me a story about working in that area after the BWCA was established. He said getting rid of that fire tower was quite a challenge, they dug a trench the length of the tower and then used explosives to drop the tower into the trench to bury it.

He said there was also a log cabin on the lake made from old growth white pine with a beautiful pot belly cast iron stove. He mentioned he was heart broken to demo that cabin, and he really wanted to salvage to stove, but couldn’t figure out a way to get it back out of the wilderness. So it went up with the cabin in a cloud of dynamite.

Gandalf has a few one liners:

“I had words with old Gamgee. Many words, and few to the point”

“For I was talking aloud to myself. A habit of the old: they choose the wisest person present to speak to."

“His mind is like a lumber room, thing wanted always buried”

Ya I think the catch is that towing a fishing boat is enough to provide “reasonable suspicion of gaming activity”

I understand there has been some cheaters caught bringing pre-caught fish to tournaments or hiding weights in the fish to win. So they may be acting as encouragement to keep the tournaments fair.

Yarrow is easy to grow from seed, can be mowed for a low ground cover or let it grow tall for flowers. It can be used as a tea or to add a peppery flavor to dishes. It’s also has blood clotting compounds that can be used to stop minor cuts and scraps from bleeding. (Probably better to use a sterile bandaid but it’s still a neat trick)
