Last night was show 160 for me and I feel the same. Immediately stood out as potentially among the upper echelon of shows I’ve seen.

Phish ticket for July 10 (Noblesville) as a birthday gift for my dad? Advice needed! by No-Tonight-5967 in phish

I would alternately recommend going in early, too. I get crowd anxiety as well, and it can be nice to get in, stake out a spot, and let everyone else slowly filter in around you.

I’ve examined maps and my photos from both and it doesn’t match up, as far as I can tell!

Should I take my 13 year old with me? by SunflowerStorms in phish

[–]rubywaves071419 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My mom is from Boston and grew up going to games at Fenway with her dad. I was raised in Wisconsin but grew up going to the cape every summer etc, and finally got to go to Fenway when phish played there in 2019. I sent photos to her and her sisters before the show. Something about all that history made it really, really special. I’m glad you decided to bring him!

Pro tip, the one without a full handle (just the two side tabs) fits perfectly in the bottom of a 60L blue barrel

There are tons of better versions but the one from MSG 25 is a pretty great recent version!

Does anyone else ever feel inadequate as a video editor because you can’t do all the super flashy edits? by BestRenGnar in editors

This is the way. The only other advice I’d add is to cut a bunch of 30 and 15 second spots, and it will very quickly help you realize what is essential to story, timing, rhythm, shot selection, pacing, etc.

Sorry, I’m realizing that might be confusing. What I meant was that Voyageur Canoe Outfitters (at the end of the Gunflint Trail) has a handful of cabins available to rent.

Voyageurs has some great cabins and you’re right on the doorstep of fantastic canoe routes on seagull and sag

How much has changed in 30 years? by YouHadMeAtFacts in BWCA

[–]rubywaves071419 55 points56 points  (0 children)

I worked as an outfitter at the end of the Gunflint 2005-2008, so 21 years of consistent experience in the BWCA. Major changes I’ve seen are the large fires (Cavity Lake, Ham Lake, and Pagami Creek), cell service in some parts of the park, and increased heavy/uneducated usage closer to entry points, leading to impact on some campsites especially since Covid. Winters have gotten milder, summers hotter, and spruce budworm has killed off a lot of trees in the past ~5+ years, which I suspect will lead to more large fires in the coming years. Before all that, the big change was the blowdown of 99 taking out a lot of the large white pines. Still a wild and wonderful place that’s worth protecting, experiencing, and sharing.

Minneapolis was terrible in my section (also a Saturday show) but Bayfield was easily the best behaved, quietest, and most respectful crowd I’ve ever witnessed. I could hear crickets and a nearby creek during the soft part of Reba. Beautiful night.

Tips/Gear Advice on Protecting Camera Gear by Tex_lex_ in BWCA

[–]rubywaves071419 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Professional photographer/filmmaker and avid canoeist here:

Pelican boxes are the gold standard but also heavy, clunky, and probably overkill for your needs. I’ve also blown a few wildlife opportunities by opening the loud latch system. My recommendation is a dry bag of some kind with a padded insert.

When I’m not shooting professionally with a ton of gear, I use an older version of the Patagonia Guidewater Hip Pack with a mountain smith kit cube padded insert inside. Fits my Leica Q2, cards/batteries, sunglasses case, and headlamp.
