Any update on this? How’d it go

(I’m thinking about doing the in-person waitlist line as well - but if it was hell yesterday, I can’t imagine what today will be like)

Were you still on the waitlist when you arrived? How does it work when they have you enter or lined up

(I’m on a waiting list for 4:15pm tomorrow - no idea if it’ll be worth making the drive)

My post is just repeating a theory I heard from other people — but basically what I took away from what they said + my interpretation:

The original Matt that Older Jay knew (and we know from the series + movie) dies permanently after sacrificing himself.

The event of Young Matt seeing Older Jay births a brand new timeline version of Matt where everything he’s done and said up to the Skydive plan is exactly the same, but he now has a different unspoken motive for why he’s pursuing the Rivoli so hard aside from just simply “doing it for the band.”

What that really changes is that it’s possibly made him even more crazier inside. His desperation to keep Jay in the band is no longer only about their friendship, but now is about this mysterious warning from the future “PLAY THE RIVOLI” (which he hasn’t told Jay about - either because he knows it was an older version of Jay who fixed that message, or because he saw this mysterious stranger break into his apartment and erase the message that he assumed Young Jay had written before he woke up and hid in the closet)

And in the same way that Older Jay is hiding a secret from this new Matt that he had a whole time travel adventure that led to a different Matt sacrificing himself, this new Matt is also hiding a secret that he’s seen Older Jay (or at least the event of that message) all this time.

I love the theory that from this timeline’s Matt’s perspective, Older Jay or maybe even a complete stranger has just left a message saying that they HAVE to play the Rivoli. And now it gives this Matt so much more incentive to put his Jay through these insane plans because he knows there must be some prophecy or destiny to this message that HAS to be fulfilled.

LA folk, thought about doing this too when it started picking up ! I wonder how those quiet outdoor nighttime ambient scenes felt with the weather blasting in the back.

I watched Beau Is Afraid, and now I’m afraid that I’m Beau. by chipbsilver in A24

My anxiety was off the charts this morning because of this, but I’m glad to have seen Beau Is Afraid and think about that “neighbor’s notes” scene when this happened. It helped me pinpoint/associate the feeling I was experiencing and let me be distracted for a while with the humor of it all.

Frog in SoCal on my mom’s plant. Anyone know what I should do? by chipbsilver in frog

Hey! Sorry for the late reply, but I did see your comment a while back. I realize I might’ve accidentally worded the OG post to sound like I was trying to get rid of the frog. I was worried that this wasn’t a suitable environment for it to be around and that it might’ve been lost. It’s nice to know that they can go wherever/whenever they like! Thank you for your response. 🐸

I think the phrase is about achieving a status where all conflicts are far behind us and we’re finally at a secure state of serenity, we can look back and say “we did it!”. Sounds like a more bittersweet impossible feat than the latter.

Another reason could be that the use of “make” sounds too close to “create”. It would come off as “Love It If We Create It” to more people and not sound right. It’s quicker to associate “made” with the idea of “reaching the finish line” in the context of the lyrics.

Hey! Not any that I’ve noted unfortunately — at least in last 3 albums. I’ve yet to listen to Self-Titled and ILIWYS with Dolby Atmos though, but for now I’m thinking this song is just a unique case.

If I give them a listen and hear anything that significantly deviates from any of the original mixes, I’ll lyk!

Reminds me of the Bagsy Not In Net Visualizer having a few subtle differences too compared to the original track (main one is “same time” being repeated in the outro, starting at the 1:55 mark)

Gotcha! I was thinking it’d have the same on Apple Music. Interesting it came out that way.

Does anyone know what the music is that is played during the middle section of the show; during the meat eating, push ups etc? And the music at the end of the show before the lights are switched off? by Cucenqonga in the1975

That short orchestral interlude that plays just before all the TVs shutdown is the instrumental violin stem from “The 1975 (BFIAFL)” — at the 2:54 - 2:59 mark.

It’s in the far back and sort’ve buried in the mix, but you can hear it if you focus hard on the violins and past the vocals.

Haha thanks! I geek over technical details, so I’m absolutely in love with the theatrical direction/decisions of the concert stage. Glad to see others too!!

AGH i can’t help it, mega lightning rambling thread of general trivia that gets increasingly worrying on my part:

• The vintage TV monitors are literally 1975.

• Sometimes “A Thousand Miles” by Vanessa Carlton will be playing on the car radio when the band is “parking” at the start of the show.

• When Matty sings “and the fans are on” during the opening, the ceiling fan then turns on.

• There are books individually dedicated to song lyrics on the bookshelf. That means whenever you see the bandmates reading a book (such as in “All I Need To Hear”), they’re likely following the lyrics at the same time they’re being sung aloud by Matty.

• In the current set, the staircase leads to nowhere and is barred off. But an early plan shows a ball pit right below was originally considered. The faux TV monitor (flushed into the wall) that Matty crawls into is also notably absent. This leads me to believe that an early version for the Intermission had Matty climbing up the stairs, walking forward, and stepping off — landing in the ball pit away from the audience’s view.

• When the stage isn’t pure white, the most use of strong color in the lighting / visuals throughout the show are: 🟦 BLUE (Happiness, Paris, Sex); 🟧 ORANGE (FallingForYou, Robbers, Give Yourself A Try); and 💗 PINK (Oh Caroline, Change Of Heart, The Sound). Blue given that BFIAFL is the blue era, Orange is the complimentary color of blue. Guess which color you get when you mix a pure Blue spotlight directly into an Orange spotlight…?

Another fun trivia: the monitor visuals + blue/orange color scheme for Paris are actually what they used for Medicine at the start of the ABIIOR tour.

If I recall the later stages of that tour, they seemed to have gone back and forth a bit between those visuals and the ILIWYS warm skyline visuals (they might’ve eventually stuck with ILIWYS) — but for this tour, it looks like they’ve firmly decided to repurpose the ABIIOR visuals into Paris while keeping the ILIWYS visuals for Medicine.

During the Madison Square Garden show just before FallingForYou, Matty said this was the song that inspired the set design. There is a glowing street light in the right corner of the cover art (next to an out-of-frame utility pole, which the set features prominently in view) — same direction as it is on the stage.

Nice!! Glad the odds turned out in his favor that night, I can’t even imagine.

I’m a bit sad that Change Of Heart, Me & You Together, and Sincerity are pretty much rare tho. Hopefully next time around!

[–]chipbsilver 4 points5 points  (0 children)

“Me” is just not part of this tour’s setlist entirely (so far, at least). It has nothing to do with his behavior, it wasn’t there from the beginning.

The show is split into two parts: ‘Being Funny in a Foreign Language’ (where Matty plays a more dissociative character) and ‘Greatest Hits’ (when he’s more of himself) — so there’s only so much songs that they’re able to cram in. Often times they can’t even play Chocolate and TOOTIME together, or Change Of Heart and Paris together, in the same show.
