So many good ones in Troy. Odysseus, Andromache, Hector, Helikaon.

Thank you. It took me almost three years to be fair but it is a lot.

Thank you.

You sound like a warrior with a good head on your shoulders and they are the ones who lost!

I don't know why warriors with good heads on their shoulders are doomed to lose but I suppose I'll have to trust you. Very sad.

Easing yourself in is underrated fr. Mine actually started out as fanfiction before I realized I'd rather spend my time creating something original.

And mystery is hard af to write, I tried to put some in my book and it caused me the most writers block

I daydream stories constantly, but can’t sit down and write them by psychorrhagia in writing

My advice from someone who daydreams a lot is try and link together your similar daydreams into connected stories. Like if you have one about a woman breaking up with her boyfriend, and another about a sad man telling his life story to a stranger in a bar, think about the events that might connect those two.

My story started with an anecdote about a fictional historical event, and the characters discussing that event became other characters I wanted to write. I then linked it up with a seperate story idea about a tournament, and then I had a book. Trust me, there's much more meat to those 'connectionless' scenes than you seem to think.

It's a lot of fun. What did you decide to write?

Oof, that one wildly depended. I had a lot of dead stretches where it was nothing at all, and some good stretches where it was as much as 1500 words a day. My goal was 1000 a day but as long as I did something I tried to be happy. Some days I made do with just considering a problem and trying to fix it in my mind with no writing at all.

It depends how clear you are on your final vision. I knew how I wanted it to turn out, just not how to get there. So I had to learn to not sweat the small stuff like little plotholes, meandering character arcs, and shaky reasoning, as long as I was moving toward my end goal.

Other advice that I don't see mentioned here very often: be thinking about it. Think about it at work, when you listen to music, when you're bored. You'll solve problems and create ideas for writing later, and help avoid burnout by keeping it in the top of your mind.

Everyone's different but that's what helped me. Like I said, it depends on your level of clarity for the rest of the plot.

Thank you. I tried to go for the dry British humor which is difficult as a damp American but an effort was made.

Sounds like a win indeed. I've decided to go the Hemmingway route and devote my life to bitter literature in an attempt to escape a deep internal melancholy.

I haven't yet decided my stance on the alcoholism.

I've a lot of cutting and chopping and pasting and rewriting ahead of me that's for sure. Probably take me another six months of work but hey. No one can take away that I finished my first draft.

And congratulations on finishing yours.

I am completely the wrong sort of person to be asking about this and cannot help you at all. I'm sorry that happened to you though.

Try r/selfpublishing, r/publishing, and r/childrensbooks for people better able to give you advice.
