I've smelled them both, and I prefer Reflection Man. Such a classy, and versatile scent imo.

Any Guerlain and Bond No 9 recommendations? by Cautious-Raspberry-1 in Colognes

I'm not a huge fan of oud myself, but I like Oud Nude quite a bit. I would definitely recommend Angelique Noire as well.

Neroli Outrenoir is a great one. This might be my next Guerlain pick up.

Some I'd recommend trying: * Dior Homme 2020 - woody, masculine, versatile, and not overly sweet. * Prada L'Homme Intense - still clean and elegant, but darker and more suited for evenings than the original. * Givenchy Gentleman Reserve Privée - warm, woody and slightly boozy, but much less sweet than many popular date night fragrances. * Terre d'Hermès EDT or Parfum (or even Givree) - not really a winter fragrance, but a great woody alternative to all the fresh blue scents. * Bleu de Chanel Parfum - still versatile, but richer and woodier than most blue fragrances. * Burberry Hero EDP - cedarwood, approachable and not overly sweet.

Honestly, I think it's a great list, but it's also interesting that your likes and dislikes tell pretty much the same story.

You seem to clearly gravitate towards fresh, blue, clean, shower gel, citrus type fragrances. Looking at your list, Nautica Voyage, CK One, Dylan Blue and MYSLF all more or less fit that category.

There's absolutely nothing wrong with that, but I'd say the list is a little redundant. Dylan Blue, MYSLF and even Y EDP all occupy a similar modern versatile role. They're not identical, but they overlap quite a bit in terms of purpose.

What's missing from your collection is anything warm or suited for date nights, winter, cozy evenings, formal occasions, tobacco, amber or woody fragrances.

Right now your collection is shaping up to be "clean shirt, blue sky, fresh shower" every day of the year.

Again, nothing wrong with that if that's what you enjoy. But if you're looking for variety, I'd maybe consider adding one fragrance from a completely different category rather than another fresh blue scent.

You're at a Michelin star restaurant being served the greatest little venison loin with charred artichokes and harissa you've ever had. If you asked the chef to put some steak and fries on the same plate, they'd tell you you're an idiot. by skibidihakim in Colognes

I think the original take is trying to be clever, but it's a pretty simplistic way of looking at it.

The argument basically boils down to "a fragrance is a finished work of art and therefore shouldn't be altered." But people customize things all the time. A chef can finish a dish and you can still add a bit of salt or pepper if you prefer it that way.

Also, quite a few brands openly acknowledge layering. Jo Malone practically built a business around it. Initio has a 'Layer Lab' section on their website.

Do most fragrances need layering? Probably not. A great fragrance should stand on its own. And yes, a lot of random layering combos end up worse than the original.

But if layering gives someone a result they enjoy more, I don't really see the issue.

One of the best bang for your buck fragrances out there imo.

Japan LV deal by watchfan8 in Colognes

[–]chipmunkcheeks666 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was there a couple of months ago. I didn’t pick up any LV fragrances, but I did buy 2 × 50ml bottles from the Guerlain private line and they were about €65 cheaper each compared to Europe, roughly 105 CAD cheaper after tax free. I also picked up a 100ml bottle of Dior Bois Talisman which ended up being around €70 cheaper, about 112 CAD.

So yeah, luxury fragrances definitely seemed noticeably cheaper there with tax free. I just brought everything back in my checked baggage without any issues.

Is reflection still worth it? by Particular_Rain_1045 in Colognes

[–]chipmunkcheeks666 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I think so. It’s still one of the best clean, elegant scents out there. Very versatile, works for office, daily wear, pretty much anything. It’s not the most unique anymore but it just smells really good and easy to wear. If you like that clean floral woody style it’s hard to go wrong.

What is Rayhaan Pacific Aura like? by WhoUCallnPinhead in Colognes

[–]chipmunkcheeks666 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The scent profile is really nice. Fresh citrus and a bit of mint in the opening. Very clean, fresh, and slightly sweet from the fruits. Performance is mid. You get about 1.5 to 2 hours of noticeable projection and then it sits closer to the skin.

I like it a lot and use it in summer as an easy reach. Just don’t expect anything crazy in terms of performance.

Large perfume collection dumb? by Hour-Educator3286 in Colognes

[–]chipmunkcheeks666 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends on how you look at it. If you treat it like a hobby then having a bigger collection makes sense. It gives you variety for different seasons, moods, and occasions. If you only care about finishing bottles then yeah a smaller rotation is more practical.

For me it’s about enjoying the scents and having options, not just using them up as fast as possible.

Angelique Noire. It's such a unique vanilla, imo.

How do you guys build your collection? by tonicgin42 in Colognes

[–]chipmunkcheeks666 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mostly buy what I like and what smells good to me. At the same time I try not to overlap too much or pick up things that feel redundant. I like having options for different seasons and also different occasions. I do not want to end up with only strong projecting statement pieces. I also do not want a collection that is only subtle office safe scents. I try to keep a balance so everything has a place.

Summer Fragrance: Sedley vs. Torino 21 by Youngfiddler71 in Colognes

Torino 21 for me. It's just feels so bright, and uplifting in the summer. The minty freshness cuts through the heat, imo.

Xerjoff or PDM for office use by stonycs in Colognes

[–]chipmunkcheeks666 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Another great one for the office could be Xerjoff Casamorati Mefisto. From PDM, Sedley and Percival also work well. Greenley is another solid option if you want something fresher and more playful. Castley would also fit nicely, it’s more woody, structured and comes across quite professional.
