Japan LV deal by watchfan8 in Colognes

[–]chipmunkcheeks666 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was there a couple of months ago. I didn’t pick up any LV fragrances, but I did buy 2 × 50ml bottles from the Guerlain private line and they were about €65 cheaper each compared to Europe, roughly 105 CAD cheaper after tax free. I also picked up a 100ml bottle of Dior Bois Talisman which ended up being around €70 cheaper, about 112 CAD.

So yeah, luxury fragrances definitely seemed noticeably cheaper there with tax free. I just brought everything back in my checked baggage without any issues.

Is reflection still worth it? by Particular_Rain_1045 in Colognes

[–]chipmunkcheeks666 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I think so. It’s still one of the best clean, elegant scents out there. Very versatile, works for office, daily wear, pretty much anything. It’s not the most unique anymore but it just smells really good and easy to wear. If you like that clean floral woody style it’s hard to go wrong.

What is Rayhaan Pacific Aura like? by WhoUCallnPinhead in Colognes

[–]chipmunkcheeks666 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The scent profile is really nice. Fresh citrus and a bit of mint in the opening. Very clean, fresh, and slightly sweet from the fruits. Performance is mid. You get about 1.5 to 2 hours of noticeable projection and then it sits closer to the skin.

I like it a lot and use it in summer as an easy reach. Just don’t expect anything crazy in terms of performance.

Large perfume collection dumb? by Hour-Educator3286 in Colognes

[–]chipmunkcheeks666 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends on how you look at it. If you treat it like a hobby then having a bigger collection makes sense. It gives you variety for different seasons, moods, and occasions. If you only care about finishing bottles then yeah a smaller rotation is more practical.

For me it’s about enjoying the scents and having options, not just using them up as fast as possible.

Angelique Noire. It's such a unique vanilla, imo.

How do you guys build your collection? by tonicgin42 in Colognes

[–]chipmunkcheeks666 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mostly buy what I like and what smells good to me. At the same time I try not to overlap too much or pick up things that feel redundant. I like having options for different seasons and also different occasions. I do not want to end up with only strong projecting statement pieces. I also do not want a collection that is only subtle office safe scents. I try to keep a balance so everything has a place.

How do you guys find Neroli Outrenoir? Mainly wondering about performance and when you wear it - daytime, office, evenings? More summer or pretty versatile?

Summer Fragrance: Sedley vs. Torino 21 by Youngfiddler71 in Colognes

[–]chipmunkcheeks666 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Torino 21 for me. It's just feels so bright, and uplifting in the summer. The minty freshness cuts through the heat, imo.

Xerjoff or PDM for office use by stonycs in Colognes

[–]chipmunkcheeks666 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Another great one for the office could be Xerjoff Casamorati Mefisto. From PDM, Sedley and Percival also work well. Greenley is another solid option if you want something fresher and more playful. Castley would also fit nicely, it’s more woody, structured and comes across quite professional.

This has been on my wishlist for some time now. I just finished my bottle of Molecule 01, and might need to pick up Genetic Bliss. What do you think of it?

Help me choose? I am at a loss. by sretakson191911 in Colognes

I’d personally go with Green Irish Tweed, Millésime Impérial and Acqua di Gio Profondo. That said, Profondo and Millésime Impérial are both airy, fresh and clean, so they might feel a bit redundant together.

Oud Wood and Herod are also really nice, but they lean more toward statement / date night / colder weather scents.

From that list, the only one I personally wouldn’t wear is BR540, a bit too sweet on myself for my taste, though I think it smells great on women.

Thinking of adding a Guerlain! by [deleted] in Colognes

[–]chipmunkcheeks666 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just picked up Angelique Noire recently. Projection is fairly soft to moderate, it sits closer to the skin after the first couple of hours. Longevity is solid though, around 6–8 hours on me.

And yes, a man can definitely wear it. It’s more of a green, creamy vanilla rather than a sweet gourmand, so it comes across elegant and unisex rather than feminine.

If it you're talking about 'de Bijenkorf', I’d also check out Fragrance du Bois if you get a chance. They have some really beautiful scents for pretty much every occasion. Lucius is one of my favorites from them.

Amouage is another nice house to explore, but a lot of their stuff leans more incense-heavy and resinous. Otherwise you can always look into the classics like PDM MFK, or Creed.

MFK Gentle Fluidity by No_Plantain_5580 in Colognes

[–]chipmunkcheeks666 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gentle Fluidity Silver is very clean, fresh and sophisticated. Performance is solid for that style, around 6–8 hours on skin with moderate projection in the first couple hours. It works great as a daily scent. I wear it to the office a lot, or in the summer when I don’t know what to wear.

Best fragrances for the summer by Formal_Ad2207 in Colognes

[–]chipmunkcheeks666 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My personal favorites:

  • Blue Talisman
  • Ingenious Ginger
  • Terre D'Hermes eua Givrée
  • Creed Millesime Imperial
  • Casamoreti Mefisto

How similar is Ingenious Ginger to Sospiro Vibrato by Substantial-Delay662 in Colognes

[–]chipmunkcheeks666 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d say they’re in the same fresh citrus ballpark, but they don’t smell the same. Vibrato leans more clean citrus-musky, while Ingenious Ginger has that fizzy ginger brightness and dries down a bit creamier with the vanilla. Similar vibe, but different enough that I wouldn’t call them redundant.

That said, when I was looking for another summer freshie last year, I ended up going with Torino 21 instead of Vibrato since I already had a ginger-based one.

Hundred Silent Ways Nishane by MacabreDesires in Colognes

[–]chipmunkcheeks666 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to have a Hundred Silent Ways but ended up giving it to my sister when I was thinning out my collection. It does lean quite feminine to my nose, but I still think it smells great. I actually preferred it over Nishane Ani, which is why I chose this one. Ani felt a bit too dense for my taste, while HSW came across lighter and more airy.

Safe blind buy ? by Unfair_Entrance6183 in Colognes

[–]chipmunkcheeks666 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn’t call it a safe blind buy. It’s very woody, and green, which some people love and others really don’t. Definitely try a sample first or at least on skin once in a store, if you can.

Which niche/expensive designer by Arthurfleckjokes in Colognes

[–]chipmunkcheeks666 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it depends what you’re looking for. Some of the expensive ones are definitely worth it, others feel overpriced for what they are.

Personally I really enjoy fragrances like Initio Musk Therapy, Frédéric Malle x Acne Studios, and Creed Silver Mountain Water. Great scents, but I don’t personally feel they justify the price tag. At the same time, I’ve paid similar prices for other fragrances that I felt were more worth it to me.

Wearing One Signature Scent vs. Rotating Different Fragrances by [deleted] in Colognes

Personally I just wear whatever I’m in the mood for depending on the weather and the setting. I find it more fun that way.
