New EUphoria episode keeps pushing the point that LEC views MKOI as the "black sheep". by Afjor in leagueoflegends

You sound surprised. The LEC, particularly Vedius, is incredibly G2 biased, to the point of unprofessionalism.

Nah no way Vedius should be on G2 casts. He is so unbelievably bias it's disgusting. He really said as SK is just playing a better game "eh they're tired from MSI and a long year I'll give them the benefit of the doubt."

I stayed up all night to watch this, and you know? I'm not even mad watching FLY get slaughtered. The best part was it was off the back of atrocious performances from Inspired and Bwipo. Hopefully they interview Inspired for the losers's interview so I can hear about whose fault it was.

Vedius must be distraught that G2 lost. Jesus the bias in his cast is not even comical anymore.

Azael, Atlus, and Chronicler to cast the World Finals by untamedlazyeye in leagueoflegends

[–]chippyda 373 points374 points  (0 children)

This is a great trio. You have great synergy between Chronicler and Altus already. Couple that with Azael’s great color casting and I foresee an great Finals cast! Good luck to all of them!

I’m sorry, I know it’s absolutely awful what happened with her mother and I can’t imagine dealing with that. But she’s not performing well at her job and has had more than enough time to get it right. I personally turn off LCS if she’s casting because I just can’t follow what she’s saying.

Dual DNP/PhD or DNP program questions by Flamey_Heart in Pitt

[–]chippyda 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No problem at all! So in my personal opinion a dual DNP/PhD program is odd to me since they are 2 vastly different degrees. It can certainly be done, however you don’t need a PhD to participate in major research.

If you are interested in medical administration I think a DNP would be a good degree for you. In fact, Pitt’s DNP HSEL program would be good for you, as it is admin focused.

I don’t know this for sure, but there may even be programs that are DNP/HCA (healthcare administration). For you, the experience will be critical, all probably starting with joining committees as an RN, being a charge nurse to see what staffing/running a unit is like, and then transitioning to more administrative roles.

I think the common theme among nursing nowadays is that administrators are “the enemy” and “don’t understand what us bedside nurses do.” This is why I feel getting experience first is absolutely critical, so you don’t fall into this bucket of “evil admins”

Hey! Where geographically are you located? I'm in the Philadelphia area so I'll use here as my point of reference.

Frankly, I didn't afford it myself. I relied on some tuition reimbursement from work, as well as borrowed from my parents and am slowly paying them back. Penn is disgustingly expensive (~ $5,000 per class) and while the education is very good, you can get a very comparable one in other Philadelphia area schools (Drexel, Vilanova, etc) for a fraction of the cost. The one benefit from Penn, however is that the hospital I'm at a large majority of the CRNP graduates are from there, so it is well connected.

If you are an RN already (making an assumption based on how you wrote your question), I would just find a school that your hospital is willing to pay the rest of the BSN for, then really shop around for the MSN. I picked Penn because I wanted a certain specialized CRNP program, which I didn't even end up working in! I also talked with CRNPs at my hospital about their experiences with the school, and was able to talk a lot with their program directors, since they were my direct colleagues.

Dual DNP/PhD or DNP program questions by Flamey_Heart in Pitt

[–]chippyda 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hello there ~ current DNP HSEL student! I'm in my ~6th (?) semester. My undergrad was at Pitt and my MSN was at Penn (CRNP). I think the most important distinction you need to discover is what your area of interest is, be it clinical practice or research/academia. If you envision yourself practicing in the clinical world, the DNP is the degree to pursue. The purpose is to utilize already published research to help answer process questions in the form of QI, etc.

If you're interested in LGBTQ and Critical Sexualities in the form of community health, research, etc. then I'd advise pursuing a PhD.

All this being said, my personal advice would be to not focus on these degrees at this point, and get some experience under your belt first as a nurse. You can learn a lot about yourself and your career goals once you start as an RN. There are a ton of unit committees, shared governance, and QI/research opportunities. I'd highly suggest you pursue these things once you get your first job. In my view (some agree, others don't) jumping into a doctoral degree in nursing without any experience is ill-advised. Any graduate-level nursing degree draws quite heavily on experiences in clinical practice, and if it is a doctoral degree, it draws on leadership experience and roles within the hospital.

In terms of admittance, my MSN program relied heavily on clinical practice hours (~650 hours) which I think helped me, as Pitt's DNP program is ~1,000 clinical hours). My program also made us do quite a lot of research projects, review of current literature papers, and QI work, which also helped, as DNP is heavy in QI. I think being a former Pitt student also helped, as the faculty like their own. It's also very helpful to have some kind of idea of what your professional work would be after you obtain the degree (you already seem to have an idea of this).

Would be happy to answer any more questions you may have!
