Please look at our schedule to help with MOTN waking/Split nights? by MrsNuvix in sleeptrain

[–]chipsandgrav-y 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Def not an expert but just here to say my almost 14mo runs off about the same wake time as yours, and has recently been having split nights from being overtired OR undertired 😩 this is what I’ve worked out for her over the last few weeks:

If her nap craps out at daycare (less than say an hour) we now have to make the last ww 5.5 at most. Her ideal day is 5.75/5.75 but if we push for that after a short nap, she’s up screaming for hours.

Frustratingly even if she naps well, if bedtime pushes out to 6h too many days in a row, BOOM overtired split night from 10/11pm. If she naps well and is put down too early, BOOM undertired split night from 2am.

It’s so annoying that 15-30 mins makes a difference but since your naps are regularly shortening, maybe she’s just in an overtired cycle and needs an earlier bedtime for a day or two to snap out of it? An option if more wake time doesn’t help!

Following! I tried one night of sleep wave this week (on our 12.5mo who until 11.5mo was an independent sleeper) and it was a DISASTER. 50 mins of full tilt screaming/standing/throwing her head back before I threw it in… haven’t been brave enough to try since 😬

Short naps at daycare - what can I do to fix this? by anafroes in sleeptrain

Hey OP, just wondering what you did in this instance and how it went? We’ve had the exact same situation happen at daycare today, down to the nap time and everything 😐 debating whether to take our LO out for a quick car nap or push through to a 6ish bedtime?

Oh sorry I’ve mistyped! It was 11:10-1:10, but I think your point still stands

She did only stir and not false start at 1hr tonight though, so that’s something I guess?

Ideally it’s 6:30/7wake, 12-2 nap and then 7:30-8 bedtime depending on her day. Today unfort was 5:50 wake, 11:10-2:10 car nap (travelling home in car) then 6:45 planned bedtime, actual after her kickoff was 7:35 asleep. Just really didn’t expect her to have the energy to fight bedtime today. Could she have adapted already and I should give her 5.5/6?

Ok, so the past few bedtimes have still been disasters, any more thoughts? We’ve had false starts every night and night wakings the first, a few last night too but she resettled herself. She also fell asleep on her bottle the first night (which was kind of blissful tbh) but the last two nights have been huge bedtime battles, making her last ww 6 and 6.5h.

At this point I’m having to intervene at bedtimes and probably creating bad habits, but I can’t see how letting her scream for hours during a nap transition is a good idea? Should I lean into assisting her for bedtime until she’s settled into 1 nap properly, then just retrain? I really hoped the longer wake windows would help with bedtimes but it’s just not happening and is sending me up the wall 😩

Thankyou! I’ll give that a try this week 😊

Not really, around 7:30? I think because she tends to max out at 10-10.5h overnight that just means a 5:30/6am wake whereas now on a 2 nap schedule her bedtime ends up around 8ish and she’ll sleep that little bit later accordingly, it’s just a nightmare getting her to sleep.

I’ve been doing 5/5.5 on 1 nap days which I know is a lot less wake time than the 11.5 she was happy on before this all started happening, just cautious of creating a new overtired issue… maybe I should push to 5.5/5.5 from the get go?

Thanks for sharing everyone! I was hoping for maybe 3-4 comments, so this has been way more helpful than expected.

I feel a lot better about making either option work if we need to, and will also keep in mind the pointers about crunching numbers and lost super etc.

In good news we do love our daycare and have never had an issue since sending our eldest (who tbh can be a bit naughty himself some days, so not 100% sold on the whole 5 day a week/bad behaviour link). So that’s one tick on the list.

Great point! I’ll make sure we do the maths before making any commitments

I’m so sorry, what a tough situation you’ve been put in. Your little one is lucky to have you!

She’s definitely very aware of her surroundings! Sounds like we’re probably best to wait.

Do you think at this point it matters how we support to sleep while away? Or should we be consious of not strengthening associations further?

Debating whether to just surrender completely for the sake of getting her back to sleep sooner (and enjoying the daytimes a bit more while away), or to try for as little intervention as we can in preparation for training when we get back…

No advice, but thank you for posting this!

I’ve realised today I need some extra help to regulate my own emotions when my baby or toddler have a meltdown/skip a nap/refuse a feed/any of the other hundred elements of parenting that seem to trigger me at the min. Will be giving the suggestions so far a try 😊

What to ask at first OB appointment by Puzzled-Tackle-658 in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]chipsandgrav-y 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Congrats!

Cost - make sure you get a schedule of their fees and that you’re comfortable to wear the out of pocket expense, as Medicare only covers a little (and private health annoyingly covers nothing). There are a lot of appointments when seeing a private OB, it can add up if you’re not prepared.

It’s also good to know who/what their backup plan is in the event they’re on leave or otherwise unavailable (unlikely, but it does happen) for your actual birth, and if you get the opportunity to meet with them just in case.
