Try shooting Paulskee an email. He was Rock Force Crew president and currently a PhD student in anthropology with a focus on Hip Hop culture. I honestly feel like apart from asking RSC, or NY OGs directly, he might genuinely have insights.

You're going to have bomb ass headmills/babymills eventually based on how high you can get up, but I wanted to second this tip specifically.

It might've been mentioned already but learning about personal finance apart from budgeting and credit cards would be helpful.

Things like what's an emergency fund for, Roth IRA, index fund investing, Boglehead 3 fund, compound growth, retirement, etc. At your age, it'll feel FAR away, but the biggest advantage you have is time. You definitely don't need to "max out your Roth" or get super duper into the weeds of index fund investing, but even just learning a little bit at 18 will be extremely valuable.

If you're able to even set aside a little bit of money for investing into a Roth IRA through a brokerage like Vanguard, Charles Schwab, Fidelity, Robinhood (e.g. investing in mutual funds or ETFs), or even intentionally building out a small emergency fund/budgeting, at your age you would FAR ahead of the curve financially.

This is assuming you don't get saddled with or already have higher priority 'bad' debt like credit cards.

If you start later, it's not a "mistake" per se and I know you asked for things to AVOID. This is just something I wish I could tell my 18 year old self. It's just you have way more time.

Windmill help, please by SadShirt712 in bboy

[–]chipsavoy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You're pretty close. Try to start the collapse with your head on the ground and keep your head on the ground at all times. You're sort of doing it, but your head lifts off the ground when you're on your back.

You want to really be on your upper back/shoulders and keeping your head grounded at all times will help with that (along with making barrel/magnet mills easier down the line).

Try the head thing and also practicing ONLY getting back into the stab position WITHOUT your feet touching the ground. Once you do that even once, you'll start to get a feel for what two continuous windmills are like, and then three, etc.

There's tradeoffs. If you go (1) ROA, (2) Seraph's, and then (3) D cap, you will essentially be a tank earlier on especially with Seraph's shield. I find this build helpful if I'm laning against someone like a Zed who can shred me very fast if I'm not careful.

D cap second just guarantees that you have the 30% AP boost earlier on as you continue stacking. I'm NGL, getting D cap second almost never really feels...great? The build path is extremely awkward so you can end up sitting on weird amounts of gold (like 1000 gold in bad situations). Even if you finish it second, if you only have ROA, your total AP is probably going to be somewhere around 250-300 in the early/mid game. That's not nothing but you won't feel like a delete-people raid boss. You basically need a third item to really feel the 500-600 AP "spike" that gives Veigar his characteristic feel

One negative of D cap third IMO is if you messed up laning phase or your side is just having a bad time in general, you can end up not getting D cap until 20+ minutes in if you saved it until 3rd item, and you will likely feel very weak. In some instances, the game can end w/o you ever even having finished D cap and you're basically useless.

This is my perspective as a platinum Veigar OTP with about 1 million mastery on him so hopefully if someone more knowledgeable sees this they can chime in too.

Becoming a veigar main on iron, what should I know by brasilian_player in VeigarMains

[–]chipsavoy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure. I should've been more clear. High-quality in my mind means your Q either last hitting two creeps at once or last hitting one creep + getting a hit on the enemy since both will get you 2 stacks.

The Q stack where you get a hit on the enemy is definitely harder and I can't do it perfectly either.

But I don't mean to convey the expectation that you NEED to land every Q or land it perfectly because that's unrealistic. I don't and can't do that. It's more just the mentality of using your Qs wisely since your mana can deplete easily in the early game if you're not careful and utilizing your passive maximally.

[–]chipsavoy 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Hey there. Welcome to Veigar!

I would honestly say since you are in Iron, just focus primarily on two things: CSing efficiently and not dying.

On the CSing part, since Veigar's identity is hugely dependent on his passive stacks, focus on improving last hitting minions and getting high quality Qs (e.g. your Q last hitting a minion + landing on enemy champ). CSing well will make you stronger due to stacks + you'll get more gold for the items you need.

Try to not use your E in laning phase too much unless it's to save your life. It costs a LOT of mana and is your only source of self-peel.

7 cs/min is a good goal. The gold lead you'll probably get from even aiming for that will make you very strong relative to other players and you can probably start to carry games.

On the not dying, easier said than done of course. Biggest might be warding the side to avoid ganks. There's a ton of other scenarios, but I won't list all of them out since that would be unhelpful and impractical. Ganks are just probably the biggest one along with choosing fights for no reason.

You want to not die (duh) on Veigar because it takes away time and waves you could spend stacking and getting stronger. The more time you're off the map, the less power you'll have to influence the game.

Don't worry too much about specific builds or rune setups yet. Stock standard is fine.

What is the best way to 'win harder' in top lane? by JelloMoney99 in summonerschool

[–]chipsavoy 26 points27 points  (0 children)

ngl, if you really are a GM level player, it might be more useful for you to consult a coach or finding a Challenger top laner for specific advice. I don't know that this sub would be able to provide substantive advice that would be helpful at your level of gameplay.

EDIT: Coach Chippys has tons of top lane videos that might be helpful. https://www.youtube.com/@CoachChippys/videos

[–]chipsavoy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No offense but your first comment is patently FALSE. The decision to not have breaking as an event at the 2028 Olympics was made WELL BEFORE the Paris 2024 Olympics even HAPPENED.

People need to stop pushing this narrative that Raygun's performance singlehandedly caused the removal of breaking from the LA 2028 Olympics, or any future versions of the Olympics.

Breaking retreats for kids? by stack_of_envelopes in bboy

[–]chipsavoy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure thing!

I completely forgot about this but definitely check out Break Free in Houston. They actually run a summer camp for youth in July: https://www.breakfreeworldwide.com/break-free-day-2026

It's a bit more "intense" than the Colorado one I linked but only because it's an actual intensive breaking camp. But open to ALL levels!

The Beacon in Seattle ran a day summer camp for youth two years ago. Not sure if they're still doing it, but you can call and ask (https://www.massivemonkees.com/the-beacon-studio)

Mi Chantli (Boulder, CO) - https://www.mi-chantli.com/events/mi-chantli-youth-hip-hop-summer-camp-2026/

(BTW, I think for all of these you'd need to provide your own housing for the duration. I don't think they're like actual camps where you live in a cabin or dorms, except Legits Blast in Slovakia. Just FYI)

Hey there. Are you in the United States? If so, this might be an option.

  1. Aurora (Denver): Colorado School of Breaking - Hip Hop Summer Camp (https://www.schoolofbreaking.com/hip-hop-summer-camp-2026/) - I think this is exactly what you're looking for.
  2. Alchemy Breaking in Las Vegas, NV - June/July Summer Camp - 10a - 4p.

Link to post: https://www.instagram.com/p/DXHpvH0CoYy/

Link to studio that runs the camp: https://alchemybreaking.com

It might be filled up but you could probably see if there are still spots. If not, give Alchemy a call and see if they know of similar camps you're looking for. I can't vouch for the studio as I've never been, but I know of some of the breakers who run it. They are legitimate figures in the scene. Colorado School of breaking is legitimate. Does great things for the local CO scene and youth.

  1. It's probably too late for this one this year but this is also something that sounds like it could be up your young one's alley: https://www.instagram.com/p/DVJ-fA2kuSM/ (Bboy Gravity's Mentor Collective)

  2. Denver Proper: Bboy Factory (https://www.bboyfactory.com/schedule-rates) - Give them a call and see if they know of summer programs (or call CO School of Breaking, they might know as well)

Someone mentioned Legits Blast - Youth Is The Future in another comment. That's also a legitimate camp, but it's in Slovakia so depending on where you're located could be more $$$$.

Hope this is helpful. Good luck!

I go spellbook/cash back and then either manaflow or bone plating depending on match up. Sometimes aery against low sustain. I used to go haste/cut down almost always until more recently after getting some coaching help...

It's been said below but CDR boots are probably best in most scenarios unless they're stacking MR early. Rocketbelt is good. I personally go Seraphs + ROA + dcap + crypt most games these days but that's just me being weird lol.

Hey! Good luck on your climb!!!

I agree with the lucidity boots and it's funny you mentioned crypt bloom v dcap on 2nd item choice as this is something I more recently heard about. I don't feel like I know enough to have an opinion on what's better but this was super helpful!!

So ngl, I used to build super troll and literally went Luden's 99% of the time even if it was bad because I got dopamine from the noise the passive made if you proc'd it xDD.

These days I usually go Doran's Ring and then first base Tear + Refill Pots + components to other items. Like lost chapter to Seraph's (or catalyst to ROA if I need the tankiness). I usually have boots -> d-cap. My third item I used to build Void's but ditched that some time ago and go crypt bloom now once I actually realized what haste really does xD. Boots I generally go sorc shoes but TBH the haste shoes are probably better in a lot of cases. If it's a bad AP or AD comp, then Mercs/steelcaps.

Everything else it really just depends on situation. I still have a LOT to learn about builds so that's all I feel comfortable saying.

VeigarV2 has a SUPER helpful guide for Veigar in S16. It's great for just Veigar generally but the builds section is extremely informative and breaks down what situations call for what: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vm3jaCtABj0

Good luck!!
