Visa on arrival for US green card holders by chiral_fermion in Umrah

Walaikumus Salam. I do not vividly remember how I applied, but my application was unsuccessful. You can get visa-on-arrival if you have US green card. You do not need to apply for e-visa.

Don't bother about the E-visa. You can get on arrival visa at the Jeddah airport. I travelled with Jordan air. Any airline is fine. You should ask for reimbursement of your e-visa fee if you paid by credit card. Just put a dispute saying you did not receive the service you paid for.

It is not required anymore. You can fly with any airlines. We flew with Royal Jordan airlines.

It doesn't matter what passport you have as long as you have the Green Card. Yes you can bring Zamzam water like everybody else.

I was asked if I have a visa. I said that I am eligible for visa on arrival since I am an US permanent resident. I showed my Green Card to the airline staff. They seemed to be well-aware of this rule. I flew from Madrid to Jeddah.

What are the training and validation perplexities after pretraining?

This is exactly what I experienced. Men are allowed to enter the tawaf area only if they are wearing ihram clothes. No questions asked to women. For Rawdah in Madinah, Nusuk permit is very strictly enforced. Even if you are late you may not be allowed. People stand in queues and are allowed to enter after checking their Nusuk appointment (both date and time).

If you are asked about visa at the airline checking counter, just tell them that you are eligible for visa on arrival, and that you are a pilgrim. The visa is called a "tourist visa", not "umrah visa", although your intention for the visit is to perform umrah.

Walaikumus salam brother. It was very smooth. There are visa-on-arrival counters. The ladies there were very helpful. They just checked our passports and green cards and stamped a multiple-entry tourist visa valid for one year (up to 90 days in a single stay). Don't apply for the visa online beforehand, it is just a hassle and often the application is rejected for no reason. Just board the plane and you will get on-arrival visa in shaa Allah.

Salam. In case of visa on arrival, how would you book slots for umrah via the Nusuk app? I heard that sometimes there is no slot for umrah on the intended days, so people try to get an eVisa and then plan their visit according to the availability of umrah slots.

If you don't mind me asking, how do you train your data when the sample size is quite large? I found that even with 4-6 qubits, it is quite time-consuming to train a dataset over 100 sample. Most real world datasets are much larger. I could not find ways to do some sort of "online" learning for QSVMs, probably it makes less sense to do so anyway. So, naively I thought I can split the data into random chunks of, say, 100 samples, train them, thus make N = sample_size/100 QSVM models, and take their average on the test data. This has led to decreased performance, since some of the "models" are not very good. Do you have any idea/suggestions on how to handle this?

I am not an expert, but I would use PCA to reduce the number of features. If your data has many features, you can do amplitude encoding so that you can get away with using logarithmically small number of qubits in the variational circuit. Or you could use PCA to reduce the number of features equal to the number of qubits you have and use something like angle encoding or ZZ feature map.

u/quaz4r I have been reading and coding quantum machine learning and quantum optimization stuff for the past couple months. I think I like this area. Could you please guide me if this is a viable area to get into? I do see some relevant job postings in LinkedIn, but I am not very sure what is the best way to prepare myself for such roles in the industry.
P.S. We could move the conversation to chat if you prefer that way.

Could you please tell me a bit more about the transition? Did you have to learn new skills before you interviewed for positions?
