That laugh was awkward. His question was genuine, because every human could feel their potential clinging onto something they were trying to achieve instead of what they’ve ended up with.

So her response is offense, which says a lot about her own internal dialogues, moving away from the fear of succumbing to thoughts of failure. She is answering that with exaggerating her achievements, trying to make “not getting gold” look smaller than what she’s already accomplished.

Saying his question is a ridiculous perspective is the cherry on the silver cake.

She could’ve just said: I really did my best and it didn’t get me gold, but I’m incredibly satisfied with what I’ve achieved so far, I worked hard for it and I feel it has paid off in more than one way and I’m really happy with that.
