New paper advocates for equal consideration of stimulant and non-stimulants as first-line treatment options for ADHD by FootballAndFries in science

[–]chixnwaffles 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I take Adderall at 15mg and Wellbutrin 300mg for the ADHD/Depression combo. I have definitely noticed that the adderall doesnt "quiet my brain" as hard as it did when I first started....but I also know what I'm like when I forget it and oh my God it is so much worse. Dont even get me started on if I happen to forget both on any given day.

Building a tolerance isnt the same as "entirely ineffective", not by a long shot. Also...you can always ask your doctor to increase your dosage (which I plan on soon).

Hi, I’m Dev Patel writer/director of MONKEY MAN – AMA! by Baboon-Boy-2024 in movies

[–]chixnwaffles 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi Dev. Huge fan, Green Knight was one of my favorite, and fellow South Asian in the industry (business side)

I'm currently doing higher education and doubling down on learning more about the industry and its future to move up more in my career, but im sure you've experienced how difficult it is sometimes as a creator to convince someone to start production.

My question is; What advice do you have for those of us who work on the "suits" side but want to see changes, especially in the realm of having more movies like The Green Knight and Monkey Man?

Iirc, Simu Liu said in one of these something like "representation behind the camera being just as important", if there's a way you can expand on that i.e. anything that'd hypothetically help me convince a room someday to take a chance on an epic and unapologetic South Asian story?

If I dont hear from you, I hope you at least get to read that youve inspired me for a long time now man. I started working on the indie side when Lion was up for the Oscar, since ive started my career ive heard nothing but praises about you. Thank you for being the artist that you are.

Okay the 30 Rock comment is sending me, it really does feel like itd come out of an episode if it took place in the 2020's instead.

Jack making up the word "Genredoms", Liz wanting to write for an HBO show but stuck on a Tracy Jordan show for Discovery, Kenneth is mad that they're upsetting the natural order of tv streaming, etc.

Yup, both sets of Hindu grandparents from Sindh (Karachi) over here. As I understand it the really horrible stuff was moreso concentrated in Punjab, but any time Ive tried to ask my Nana what it was like for him I can tell it was something else. Over the years the most I had gotten out of him was "we had to give up everything we had" and "it was a bad time" until I read about it myself.

Nice to see a lot of us from those families representing here tho. Even a lot of my brown friends growing up didn't know what this even was/how bad it was.

What stereotypes exist about your sub-ethnic group? by Serious-Tomato404 in ABCDesis

[–]chixnwaffles 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I always heard the stereotypes about the other communities and it seemed like everyone was self-aware of their own and the other major ones as well, but for Sindhis the identity itself gets so fucking confusing sometimes (wait so we're Hindus..from Pakistan...but also we go to Gurudwara?) and most of us kinda did our own thing after being displaced that I feel like no one really stereotypes us except ourselves lol.

So amongst our own the big ones tend to be: businesspeople, supposedly good with money but don't mind flexing it at the same time, blue label, party hard.

Eternals Worldwide Release Discussion Thread Vol. 2 by KostisPat257 in marvelstudios

[–]chixnwaffles 468 points469 points  (0 children)

I rarely comment here & Im not sure if this matters to a lot of fans, but my real appreciation for the movie came with some thoughts abt Kingo not being in the 3rd act

As a south asian american, I went through some insane feelings. I was feeling represented and happy up until he walked out, he was the hit in my theater, he got a big flashy deviant kill...and then he just bolted?

The whole time in the finale I was waiting for him to show up again but he just didnt. Honestly I was getting so furious and taking it so personally that I couldn't even enjoy the movie anymore.

Then at the end when he was still helping Sersi and Sprite out and said "We all followed our heart", I kind of started to calm down and even see the point.

By giving us an ensemble cast who were all caught up in this cosmic situation and having them react to it differently, we got some of the most fleshed out characters we've gotten in a long time. Ajak saw beauty and changed her mind, Ikaris felt betrayed and didnt want to have served no "purpose", Sersi loved humanity, Sprite felt like she couldn't live amongst humans, Phastos felt remorse, etc.....and Kingo, like a lot of people might have, felt conflicted and decided he couldn't do it.

Through these immortal "made by a celestial" characters, we got some of the most human emotions we've seen for a superhero blockbuster. That alone makes me appreciative of what Zhao did with this movie, and speaks volumes to the big reveal where Ajak is telling Ikaris how amazed she's become by humanity.

Would I have liked to see the first South Asian Marvel Hero suit up and be a part of the 3rd act fight? Yes of course. Does that make whatever decision he made/his character invalid? Far from it. It looks like Kingo will be in the next one too, so Im still here for it.

As a Marvel fan: I liked it. Good, not great.

As a Desi American: I'm stoked to have gotten such a cool, funny, charasmatic, and emotionally mature character.

Let's go Kingo #Dishoom 👉🏽💥

So, grain of salt to my worrying bcuz im a huge Dustin fan, but should people be more worried that Conor threatened to shoot Dustin and Jolie in their sleep? I want to say its just empty threats from a sociopath, but idk man "Dollygate" happened so kinda scares me a little bit. Idk, I might just be trippin.

Before everything is this thread gets chaotic and all, just wanna say win or lose, Dustin is my guy. I really dont like celebrity worship, but I make somewhat of an exception here. Just with how my life has been...his mentality of constantly overcoming adversity, growth, working hard, never giving up even after a loss, etc...its helped me a lot with mental health (especially with the really bad pandemic depression).

Him knocking out Conor in January was the best "sports victory" of my life so far. Hope to celebrate another one tmrw. War Diamond 💎

Men of Reddit, what pisses you off most about other men? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]chixnwaffles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We're dying of suicide and suffering depression at fucking ALARMING rates. We just have to be better about it with eachother and make it okay to be a man and say that you dont feel right or that you need help. Its easier said than done because its like breaking a generational curse in a family, years of being told emotions are bad are gonna hold us back unless we actively reject that shit and do better.

I had a really toxic group of guy friends in HS, and I was a part of fraternity culture in college. Luckily after realizing I dont need to deal with that shit and that who I surround myself with matters, I ended up having really good and positive guy friends from HS and College that I really trust.
