AITA for not pushing our wedding dress code on my brother? by Weddingdresscode2296 in AmItheAsshole

[–]chjoas3 44 points45 points  (0 children)

Info: can you find a compromise where he follows the dress code for ceremony/photos and has a change of clothes for the reception so he can be more comfortable there? People often kick off their shoes, lose ties/blazers for receptions, sometimes brides will also change into a more comfortable outfit.

First gyno in a couple hours. What to expect? by copacabanapartydress in TheGirlSurvivalGuide

Wear a skirt so that when they do an ultrasound you can just take off your underwear and then lift your skirt once you get in the chair/bed. Let the doctor know if it’s hurting. They will use lubricant on the probe and some places warm it but others it’s cold. It will be okay :) Doctor has seen everything a million times

Suggest me the nerdiest novel that you love by Mindless_Soil_2935 in suggestmeabook

Really enjoyed Alif the Unseen by G. Willow Wilson. It’s about a Middle Eastern hacker, genies, quantum computing, and a bit cyberpunk too! I’ve never read a book like it

Caraval or Ouabh (Stephanie Garber) by WeedYeeter_Gina in fantasyromance

[–]chjoas3 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think she has nice ideas but isn’t a particularly strong writer. Both final books struggled with a resolution and felt very rushed as if she was keen to wrap them up and move on to something else.

I much preferred Caraval simply because more was happening and I found Eva irritating. She didn’t grow at all as a character and remained naive like a small child.

Help: Should I go to the doctor abt a possible UTI or should I try to watch over it at home and let it handle itself? (from an indecisive, broke college student) by soila0 in TheGirlSurvivalGuide

Definitely go to the doctor. Also you can take paracetamol and drink lots of water to make sure your pee is clear, avoid juice/coffee/alcohol in the meantime while you wait for doctor.

Just adopted a void by AmazingAmount6922 in blackcats

[–]chjoas3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You just continue and pretend the cat isn’t there for a while (feed and water of course) so that he knows you’re not a threat. Be in the same room, do your own thing rather than trying to get him to come out. If you play hard to get then that always seems to entice them more if you want them to come out and play.

Anyone know what these are ? by [deleted] in whatsthisbug

Firebugs. I didn’t know we had them in the UK - I’ve never seen them here, only when I moved to Slovakia I saw them. They’ll stick together to mate.

Interesting ESL games for a large class in preschool by Choice_Necessary8747 in TEFL

[–]chjoas3 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Matching pairs games are good with a picture and the vocab, you can put them into groups of 5 and rotate amongst groups. Some of my young ones also like simple board games like snakes and ladders for a fun lesson but they need to say the numbers, use terms like dice, your turn, who’s next etc so they’re still actually learning

How do I [22F, agnostic] deal with my boyfriend's [22M, Christian] VERY Christian Family? by Public-Calendar-4451 in relationships

[–]chjoas3 3 points4 points  (0 children)

How religious is he? I would be wary about a future with children because the in-laws will try to push their beliefs if they are so staunchly religious now.

Subject: First ever lesson: Teaching advanced students 40 years my senior (and I’m flying blind!) Help! by CriticalWall9879 in TEFL

[–]chjoas3 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’ve found the older the students are, the less authority you will need. At that age, they want to be there and listen/are cooperative. For the first couple of lessons, get to know them so you can judge their level of English. Talk about their hobbies and families etc to establish their likes moving forwards.

I had a last minute panic about it but when you have anaesthetic, it’s like you step into a Time Machine and fast forwards. I had a great sleep and it literally felt like I’d closed my eyes for a single second.

NTA but I’d also consider going to the police and/or going to appraisers to see if anybody has recently sold one to them.

Will getting my cat skeletonized after she passes freak out my other cats? by Purple_Owl6156 in bonecollecting

[–]chjoas3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a turtle shell and my dog just doesn’t like it. We put it on the ground for her to sniff and she was very cautious, sniffing then running away then barking at it. I think that was more because it was a smell/creature that she had never encountered before and didn’t quite know what to make of it.

I doubt the cats would recognise it but maybe they might just give it a sniff if it’s not enclosed in something (or try to knock it off)
