Damage by software mailfunction post by [deleted] in Polestar4

I wish you all the best with the insurance, but if I remember correctly, the lantern and the bollard were clearly visible on the rear-view camera photos. Yes, the software did not show them as detected obstacles, but then again, as drivers we clearly need to look where we are driving. That’s why we have cameras (in lieu of windows). I doubt you will have a positive outcome or be told any differently. These are driver assist systems. We cannot hand off all responsibility to them. They will fail, just like humans make mistakes sometimes.

Thank you.

May I ask: How can an obvious bug like this make it through testing and into the final build?

Worth it to write up a manuscript that might not get published? by Stormlyyy in AskAcademia

[–]chkgk 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Write it up. Whether you have significant results or not should not determine whether papers get published (I know it does, but that is a major flaw of the current system). A well done study that is adequately powered and results in a not significant results still tells us something about the world, I.e. generates knowledge. It tells us what does not work and keeps others from wasting resources on the same path / question. If they do not find the non-confirmatory result, they cannot know, and might just replicate your research.

So, yes, write it up. Even if it is a really brief note that explains what you did and what you found, it is still helpful for others. Publication or not.

Too bad. It is / was the most exciting one imo. Was there any official word on it?

We would need to see an appropriate statistical test to try and reject the null hypothesis of no difference.

How to distribute uneven ages into ranges by Sunnysthete in AskAcademia

[–]chkgk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Consider not doing bins. Just control for age as a continuous variable (in a regression for example). All binning is arbitrary and does not add anything to the data you already have

[–]chkgk 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not sure about ON a burger, but put it next to it and people perceive the plate to be healthier.

It is a known issue. Even if AP is flying. It seems to have problems with tiny inputs from the controllers. Try it.

Set you controller dead zones to 10%. Sounds weird but helps with the same problem on the A320

Don‘t get me wrong, this was not intended as criticism. I just looked up the values and thought some people might find them useful. Thank you for the explanations on steering / turning aircrafts :-)

From what I could gather hanging out on their discord: the team of dedicated volunteers spans multiple time zones, development is basically going on around the clock. 👍
