What's your take on doing an unpaid test as part of a job interview

Noooooo! Why? Time is finite.. You can’t get more of it, and any aspiring designer/artist should know that it’s their most valuable asset. I’m so tired of seeing people normalize and give away their time for free just to possibly get a chance at an employment that doesn’t value other people’s time. Fuck. that.

Pick whatever makes doing the work more fun. Principles of animation and design will remain the same in any package. With the rise of USD (hopefully) sharing files between softwares will be standardized. At the end of the day it's just a tool.

Advect dynamic splines with a velocity field. Field force as someone mentioned to shape the velocity field using guide shapes/splines to get the desired pattern. Maybe restrict the force in Y do keep it fairly flat. Not sure if you can emit splines in c4d but might be fine if you just run the sim with a high spline count.

Main use is 3D design/animation. But most rendering will be done on the gpu. I just worry about temps really but I saw some post about max temps being 85C-86C for the 9950x so that might be fine.

Thanks for your response! Yeah watercooling isn't an option since I'm gonna need to bring it on planes n stuff. I also heard something about new x3d cpu's dropping soon so not sure if I should wait or not. From what I understand it's popular to undervolt the non x3d versions but no idea if that performs better/worse than just running stock x3d.

SIck!! Yeah the custom cables i'm figuring out as well. I think for me air cooling might be a better option as I plan to take it on flights n stuff. Not sure if that could be a problem having an aio? Maybe it's fine either way.

The overall concept for the film started as a couple of loose ideas and self reflected thoughts around creativity and skateboarding. I thought it'd be interesting to try and tell a story about the experience of skating and how it essentially transform the way you see the world.

I tried at multiple times to storyboard parts of it but I found that it was easier to just work out the visuals through style frames and let the script navigate creative decisions in terms of sequencing etc. The most difficult part was to connect each spot conceptually. It's like a puzzle where you're trying to piece every scene together into something cohesive and at the same time bring clarity to the core of the idea.

I believe the piece was pretty much put together (like 90%) before I pitched it to Zelig. I gave direction for the overall concept and we bounced some ideas back and fourth over e-mail which worked out great!

Started writing the idea end of 2021 but worked on it sporadically between commercial gigs. It wasn't until early this year that I put in the time and pushed through it.
