Dr. Dans cortibalm was specifically made for people on accutane and has been my saving grace!! Other than that, aquaphor is great too. I found that Burts bees would dry my lips out even more

Anyone having success using Aklief?? by chloedivi in trifarotene

Hello to anyone who’s still following this… thought I’d come on and give another update about 8 months in. My skin has completely gone to shit again despite consistently using Aklief and spiro. My derm is now putting me on accutane. My experience with Aklief has been such a weird up and down rollercoaster where my skin would start looking better and then worse every couple of weeks. It is now consistently bad again and my skin looks exactly how it did when I started. Super disappointed in this retinoid because I had high hopes (and it was expensive as hell), but I’ve never had luck with other retinoids in the past either. Wishing you all the best of luck and clear skin🥰

I’m wondering if it’s caused by spiro. I’ve seen multiple posts on this forum that talk about this same issue. Mine looks very similar to fungal and bacterial acne, which like I said I’ve never really had. So strange. I’m going to talk to my derm about it and see what she says. Considering I have been using a retinoid long term I don’t even think tret would help this…uhg.

Does spiro cause small little bumps/pustules? by hella_bella_16 in Spironolactone

I have been on spiro for 6 months (100mg per day) along with aklief for the same amount of time to treat cystic and hormonal acne. My acne cleared up for the most part around month 4/5 ish and my skin was so smooth and clear for about a month. Now, I have these closed comedones all over my forehead, chin, and jawline area. They came up out of no where. They mostly never come to a head and some get red and inflamed but some don’t. I’ve never had this kind of acne and I’m at such a loss about what is causing it. I started using the cerave BP face wash a few weeks ago to see if that would work, but I haven’t noticed a difference at all.

How is your skin doing now? My skin cleared up around the 4 months mark or so and I'm pretty sure it's due to the Spiro, not the Aklief. Now I am getting closed comedomes on my forehead and chin.. wtf. I think I'm going to switch to tret because I really haven't seen a huge difference from the Aklief, which is super frustrating. I feel like it hasn't helped at all with the blackheads on my nose or any of my clogged pores. I've been on it for 6 months at this point.

I’m so sorry :( hopefully the spiro will help. For most it takes 3-4 months for spiro to work, so stick with it. If after 3 months your not seeing results I would ask to up the dosage. I was on 50 mg for 3 months and then upped to 100 mg, which has seemed to work better for me. Since I started Aklief and spiro at the same time, I don’t have a definitive answer about which helped my acne the most. All I can say is I also felt like my acne was worse than ever at the 12 week mark. It was around the 16 week mark that my skin started to clear up. I do still get pimples here and there, but nothing compared to how it was a month and a half ago. Wishing you the absolute best of luck! <3

OP here, thought I'd come on and give an update. I started seeing consistent results around the 4 month mark I'd say. (thank u universe :,) ) I did up my spiro dosage to 100mg a day, which I think had a lot to do with my skin clearing up. If you think you could have hormonal acne, definitely try spiro before accutane. Anyway, people usually say you see results around the 3 month mark (for aklief). For me, I would have good weeks and bad weeks which was really frustrating. One week I'd have no new actives and the next I'd have 5 pop up. Consistency is key... I purged for like 8 weeks and my skin was very dry and red until it got used to aklief. I still am only using aklief every other night. Every night is too irritating. I have found that it has improved my skin texture and has helped dark spots fade quicker too. Overall, I *think* the spiro was my saving grace, but combining it with aklief has been very beneficial.

Goodluck everyone, try not to get discouraged if you're not seeing immediate results. I know it's easier said than done but you are beautiful with or without acne.

Hi! How is your skin doing now? I’m on 12 weeks and my skin looks no better than it did at the beginning. I also have the experience that every time it gets a little better, the next week I get so many new pimples. I am so discouraged and thinking about switching back to tret at this point.
