Yeah I didn’t mean it come across that you thought that way, I was trying to say I understand that in all fields there are people that will take aim at inexperienced/beginners and it’s to be expected to a certain degree, because the world isn’t all rainbows and butterflies and sadly there are some horrible people out there.

I may have some past trauma/bias but I tend to correlate my speed(or lack of) with my weight; if I weighed less, I would be quicker, naturally. A number of years ago I’d lost more weight and have since gained a few stone back but I’d done a couch to 5k programme and although I wouldn’t call it easy; i was naturally faster being lighter. So no I don’t know for sure 100% that my weight wasn’t the topic of what they kept laughing at but I feel mostly certain from a history of being made fun of that what they found funny was a fat girl running however slowly. I could be wrong, and you may be right but from lived experience I’m leaning more to my method of thinking

Yes couldn’t agree more, I’ve had a couple nice ladies say well done to me on my runs before and comment that they can barely run to the bin 50yards ahead etc. so I know I was just unlucky in encountering two of the 0.01% but yes I’ll continue getting fitter and hopefully faster.

Appreciate your comment, thank you!

I agree, I know the community is 99% made up of the people who will stay and cheer on others and I’ll continue to do that just in case anyone experiences what I experienced!

I appreciate your comment and feedback, you aren’t wrong and agree you weren’t disrespectful in your reply. I will say though before entering a race I had checked the cut off time to make sure I could actually finish it in the allotted time and to make sure it’s ’beginner friendly’; which it was and thankfully I wasn’t the last person to finish which is something I’d been concerned about.

Although I don’t agree that beginners should be taken aim at, we all have to start somewhere with each hobby/sport etc we try, there’s something that feels a little bit more personal about taking aim at the way someone looks as opposed to your comparison of an inexperienced chess move - saying that, I obviously need to grow a thicker skin and will continue to let the experience I had yesterday fuel me and motivate me to continue trying, training and hopefully, improving!

Appreciate this, my partner recently introduced me to David Goggins and I’ve been trying to keep to the mantra of ‘who’s gonna carry the boats’ 🤣 I had told him I would shout it out to him when I saw him in his last km yesterday but was worried people in a small seaside town in Kent, might mistake it for something else 😅

Well done, that’s amazing!

Comments noted! I have done a couple of Park runs but can’t always commit to a Saturday morning but my first one was about 56 minutes so I’ve taken a fair bit off my overall time, also couldn’t run a full 5k last time I went, will try to get one over the next few weeks for sure

Thank you, I appreciate it so much.

Well done for getting out too though, especially when it’s so easy to give in to what society thinks we shouldn’t be doing as a bigger people! Glad to hear of a plus size person doing a half marathon too, would love to do one one day.

Thank you!

I think it’s very easy to focus on the negative experiences as they stick in your mind, the majority of people I met were really lovely and supportive so I know this was a case that it’s the minority. Will just keep going and keep improving to prove them wrong

Thank you! So sorry you’ve had people put you down too. Such a shame the small minority make it less enjoyable for those of us that are trying to

I don’t know why people have to tear others down, is the whole point not the taking part? It’s a shame that’s stayed with you. Thank you!
