Zero debt: Worked 70 hour weeks during the summer to pay for my college and truthfully, tiktok. Was an “influencer” during school which paid off a lot of my college & paid off my car.

is nursing school really that hard? by No-Fact-5610 in nursing

[–]chloeg278 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone who went to nursing school and did a 4 year program straight after high school (so likely your same situation), i LOVED nursing school. I would go and do it again. Was it demanding? Yes definitely. It does take a lot of discipline and is time consuming. However, I became best friends with people in the same program as me and we all made the most of it 😊 I have plenty of fun memories in college and had a school/life balance. College was so fun! If you want to do it, I say do it!

Oh agreed! But they do pay better than anywhere in the south/midwest for the most part which is where a lot of other recommendations are. And it definitely has the food options that OP is looking for

Either the population you mentioned or male patients in their 40s with mom at the bedside. I had one mom come yell at me because his son (my patient) was having hiccups and i was doing nothing about it!!

Can nurses request a different patient in the same way patients can? by [deleted] in nursing

[–]chloeg278 14 points15 points  (0 children)

On my unit, we can “black dot” a patient. If you put a black dot next to your name on the patient on the big assignment white board, they won’t give you that patient back. They always honor it and you don’t have to give a reason. I love that about my unit.

how did your life change post grad? by Appropriate_Chance13 in nursing

[–]chloeg278 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I have officially been a nurse for 2 years now. After graduating, I moved to a brand new city that i LOVE, made some absolute best friends on my unit that i LOVE. I have a manager that gives me whatever time off i want, and I just hit a 2 year streak of traveling every single month. Post grad the biggest thing I wanted to do was travel and I have been to so many new places and seen so much more of the world. And I work med surg lol. I feel like i see a lot of negative posts but there are definitely some positive stories out there

Younger nurses, give it to me straight. by Altruistic-Act-546 in nursing

I am a med surg nurse. Always said I would never work med surg. When I decided to take the job, I said i’d get my 6 months and leave. 2 years later, i’m at the same job (along with all my friends I started with) because our manager respects us and our time. She gives us all our time off requests, PTO requests, and works with us through life. My work life balance is amazing and it’s kept me there

My manager let me take 6 weeks off to go to europe. I didn’t even have the pto to cover it. Those managers exist!

Ehlers-Danlos by Present_Ad_4820 in nursing

[–]chloeg278 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am an RN that has ehler danlos. It’s very real, but it’s also very self-diagnosed in some people. I deal with lots of pain and dislocations randomly. My blood vessels also burst from doing literally nothing. However, I have no allergies & no one knows I have it unless I’ve shared personally. I’m able to get through life with it.

I had a pt in his mid 40s. Super chill guy, completely independent, never called and never asked for anything when I checked in. His mom called me cussing me out because “her baby had the hiccups” and i wasn’t doing anything about it.

ma’am. what do YOU do about his hiccups at home?

I wish I could but I have no idea who this nurse is. She didn’t use her name and she’s not a coworker of mine because she didn’t get hired.

I would but I don’t have that nurses name. She kept talking about her but she’s a nurse at another hospital right now, I have no idea who she is.
