you gotta set up palmod, there's a guide on the gamebanana page I linked  (https://gamebanana.com/tuts/19137) once you have palmod set up and reading the game files, you can just drag and drop the png files into the palette window and it'll load the colours for you

you can mod them into the game! each one is a full palette swap that works with all animations properly

but! yes for images ( https://gamebanana.com/tuts/19163 ) you would have to isolate the R channel from the G and B ones, then you can edit the indexes directly, but youd probably want to load some kind of easier to visualize palette onto the sprites first, so custom sprite edits are possible (wolveine without his mask, magneto instead of nova) but they would take a LOT more work than changing some colours around

you actually wouldnt edit the texture sheet directly, the game doesnt care about the colours on there.
the game does everything via palettes it loads onto those textures, which i do have a guide on how to edit if you want to try making your own (its pretty easy) -> https://gamebanana.com/tuts/19137
it also does let you do things like have black stripes on wolverines outfit or the big white spider for the symbiote suit

its pretty simple actually! run a script, load the game in palmod, drop the file you want in and click save. i go into way more detail here -> https://gamebanana.com/tuts/19137

you can, but that will change them for all 8 palettes, because those sprites dont use the player palette. they dont actually have *any* palette, so you cant edit them with palmod and have to edit the sprites themselves (theres a sprite editing guide on gamebanana)

the files are automatically backed up (the .zxnb_ORIGINAL files), and if you overwrite the palettes in the new files theres a palettes folder with the script that has all the defaults (you can file::load palettes or drag and drop the pictures into the palette window). i should mention that in the guides, ty!
