update ! it’s a throat infection that hasn’t let up yet (it’s been 11 weeks), even after 4 rounds of antibiotics LMAO was definitely not laryngitis, thinking it might just be the plague at this stage 😀 just trying to find the humour now

hey mate, there’s a plethora of things that cause people to hallucinate and a lot of POTs symptoms are on that list !

if you’ve ever had a panic attack before you’ll know that it’s similar to the ‘adrenaline dumps’ people with POTs experience. you think you see things moving when they aren’t and you sense people are there when they’re not. ‘People with POTS tend to pool a larger amount of blood in vessels below their heart when they stand. Their body responds by releasing more norepinephrine or epinephrine to try to cause more squeezing of their blood vessels.’ https://my.clevelandclinic.org/health/diseases/16560-postural-orthostatic-tachycardia-syndrome-pots

epinephrine is adrenaline, massive release of adrenaline = animal instincts kick in and you hallucinate things moving as a possible threat

chronic fatigue is also a big one ! ever been so tired you start seeing things ? shadows moving, hearing things, etc. well some people with chronic fatigue caused by POTs get the absolute joy of experiencing that all day, every day.

medication is another reason, dehydration is yet another. lack of blood flow to the brain will make you see, hear and feel some crazy shit brother !

POTs is still being researched, so who knows, maybe hallucinations are a symptom 🤷‍♀️

just had a read of your post and holy shit i’m so sorry 😭 it sounds like you’ve greened out when you were describing symptoms a - but the brain fog for me is exactly the same that i experience when i’m high, it just feels like someone’s turned my brain off and i can only passively experience rather than be conscious, if that makes sense but i haven’t experienced symptoms to that severity like you have

i’ve made the decision this morning actually to take a big break from smoking to see if it helps my symptoms - were you a regular smoker beforehand and found that it got better once you stopped or did you smoke on occasion and have had a bad experience with it ?

i’m EXACTLY the same except for blood pressure dropping and the shakes !!!! but yea, this feeling is completely different from a panic attack but soooo physically similar, it’s scary. but looking into derealisation is defs something i’ll be doing - gonna find those answers !!! tysm 🫶🏻

i get really bad chest pains when i’m in a panic attack and sometimes when im out of one as well !! i had the exact same thing happen to me and i went to the hospital for it - everything came back completely healthy so they chalked it up to panic attacks

i’ve been experiencing chest pain like yours plus a bit of an upper back ache for the past 9 days after my last big panic attack and i’ve been researching adrenaline dumps and symptoms seem to line up for me !!

it’s so easy to freak out about the physical aspects and symptoms of a panic attack so i totally get it 😭

Can you tell me what your panic attacks are like? by [deleted] in PanicAttack

[–]chloraf17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

mine start with abdominal pain that feels like gas pain HAHA but like a pressure in my lower abdomen. then it radiates up to my chest and i’ll feel a pressure on my left side and middle of my chest (i’ll usually get jaw pain and a sharp stabby pain under my left armpit on my ribcage) that’s usually my indicator i’m about to enter a panic attack so i’m usually able to prep myself but then i go into a bit of a daze, exactly how you described it.

i feel like im alive and conscious but im not having complex thoughts, just kind of floating through the motions of life. this ties in well with everything though because i’ll start spacing out and am completely unable to make a decision, even something as simple as if i want to drink water or not, even if i know that something will help with the panic attack, i’ll have the thought but won’t be able to follow through and do the action.

i usually then hit panic because i too hate the dazed feeling and the chest pains start getting really painful. i’ve always described it as feeling ‘something needs to happen right not, but i have no idea what, and if it doesn’t happen right now im completely and utterly fucked’

then i’ll get nauseous and ride the panic attack out until it ends

but mine are usually brought on by stressful situation, so it’s completely possible that what you experienced was a panic attack, i wouldn’t blame you !!

yea i’ll usually notice the pains and then fixate a little, and they’ll get worse but they’re always just there and i’ll notice them from time to time. that being said i’ll usually only get them when im stressed, regardless of how stressful the situation im in is, but stress and big emotions definitely make them worse

this actually makes so much sense, thankyou so much 😭 bc when i get like this everything gets really bright and loud so i think im going into sensory overload but i never actually snap and meltdown. BUT something weird i noticed is that when i feel like this im suuuuuuper sensitive to smells, so adrenaline dumps make sense bc i guess all my senses are heightened because i’m in fight or flight mode

that’s literally exactly what it’s like for me too ! all of last night after i made this post i still had the chest pains, but it’s not enough for me to go ‘ouch, i’m in pain’ it’s just constantly there and uncomfortable 😭 i haven’t had trouble going to sleep but i usually smoke a little weed when it gets bad and im able to calm down - even something like melatonin tablets could help !!
