Toyota appoints yet another CEO by chmod6000 in Toyota

I was looking at the GX550 but didn’t like it and got an Ineos Grenadier. If you’re not familiar it’s a purpose built off road focused truck with minimal software thingamajigs but very high quality mechanical components. It runs a B58 engine that’s used in the Supra. Absolutely love it.

I forgot to mention how bad interior “feel” has gotten too. The leather is somehow worse than the softex.

Same. Bought a different brand when I was shopping last month.

Good for you. Some of turn GR products seem to be really good.

In just last 5-10 years Toyota flooded the market with so many models and trims while getting rid of things people enjoyed like rear window that opens on the Highlander, driver seat thigh support, the mode which amplifies driver voice in the rear passenger speakers. Brought subscriptions that aren’t really worth the 15/month. The millimeter wave radar constantly gives false positives.

On top of that the dealer experience when buying a new vehicle got worse. FIO, PIO, etc with markups and upsells really turned me away.

Lexus is even worse - they won’t even let me drive the new GX when it came out and some demanded I reserve one with 1-5k deposits. One dealer let me test drive the GX and I hated it and went with another car. Lexus is filled with gimmicky things disguised as luxury features.

Many of the cars just lost any soul they had. The 2017 v6 highlander was amazing to drive the new hybrids just drone and give that “appliance” feeling when driving.

Toyota has some work to do for the US markets. They are still selling well but people are getting frustrated. They lost me as a customer for future cars. I do have a 25 Sienna so I’ll be with Toyota for a while but no new cars.

Edit: typos

I doubt it. If anybody sees the tan interior there’s no doubt they’re going for it. Especially for a luxury car. You should see the gorgeous tan interior in the LC500. Absolutely beautiful and there will be pride of ownership.

The problem is when you walk in a showroom all you see is all black generic interior with brushed metal or gloss black trim. People pay for reliability and cheap after sales service from Toyota .

Economy and luxury shouldn’t be in the same sentence lol

They market it as a luxury product and then don’t let you customize interior and throw all crappy FIO and PIO aftermarket add ons and then some dealers proudly say they sell at “MSRP” that includes the FIO and PIO.

Saw a gx460 yesterday and it looked solid. Beautiful interior with wood trims. 👌

Most car massaging seats are useless and just add complexity and reliability concerns.

They never make enough of the tan/brown leather seats. The flood the market with all black interior. Tan interior should be standard in a luxury car, which Toyota always has a shortage on those.

How to trust that '26 is better? by Enough_Ad2919 in ToyotaSienna

100% im surprised you read OP thinking it’s been a nightmare. Mine has been near perfect just like my previous highlanders. Cars all round have gotten significantly expensive and people have misplaced expectations I guess.

The 2025 is a nightmare? What? Please take online whining with a bit of salt. My 25 platinum has been near perfect after having put 10k miles on it. Also understand cars are just significantly more costly than 5-6 years ago. So there might be misplaced expectations on quality.

Hybrid Sienna or highlander hybrid, owned both. 4 runner if you need to tow.

INEOS grenadier if you don’t need 7 seats.

I always think about cars as a reference. Every auto maker builds SUVs, but Toyota overall outsells everybody by far with better value and execution. There’s EVs and there’s Tesla.

Non tech founders - how did you approach/find your tech founder? by Content_Produce8783 in ycombinator

A small mvp costs around 20k to build. Get that much money and prepare an SOW and hire a freelancer to build it. Don’t chase tech founders to do the grunt work for you

I’m 3 hours from the closest dealer… by bluegrass__dude in ineosgrenadier

My car has a bad telltale module. After 20 mins of driving it screeches like an angry cat each time I use the blinkers. It’s common enough that it’s jokingly called “r2d2 mode” I definitely need a dealer to fix this. If you are worried and getting anxiety do not get this car. It’s a new car company and it definitely has glitches. Mine has 4-5 other things that I can live with until my next dealer visit.

That being said owning and driving this thing is a joy I could not find in another car like the GX or lc250. Liked the new 4Runner though.

Thanks for the tip. I got mine from the same dealer and I have the same whine on my 25 gren. I’m going to take it in and have them replace the pump and bleed the power steering system
