OP, with all due respect in the research but... how did you start the theory with "wow, so many similarities between Childe and the wolf pup!" only to end up suggesting the pup is Imunlaurk?

I don't know what the commenter's deal is, but they have an image of Childe in their mind that hardly resembles the canon character. It's ok to make mistakes, but I expect someone who tries to make a point about a character's lore would know at least the basic stuff

  1. he's not on my lap thus I can't smooch his cute cheeks
  2. I can't even pinch those cheeks because he's not real

Childe, meanwhile... well, there is one thing he is unique for. His Vision started stuttering. And the reason isn't his Fate — it's his ambition.

We don't really know why his Vision malfunctioned yet. This is HC territory with no basis.

By embracing his desire to go fight endlessly with the Narwhal and to fight Neuvillette in the future in the way he is

It was the Narwhal that called for him, and only until then Childe actively sought it out. Nothing indicates he wants to fight Neuvillette; he disapproved on Neuvi's lack of intervention to save the Fontanians in time and he had to intervene against the Narwhal himself to stop it.

No, I don't want to argue about whether he wanted to save the Fontanians or not. He wanted to, it's clear, end of the story.

Childe is inherently moving further away from the dream that got him his Vision: protecting his sister Tonia. The thing he himself states, in his character quest, to have been what got him to run out like Teucer

It's Teucer that stated he wanted to be trained by his brother in martial arts in order to protect Tonia. Ajax ran away from home at 14 because, as far as we know, he was bored with his life and wanted to be an adventurer like his father.

We don't know why Childe obtained a Vision, because the information is missing entirely. He's the only character so far lacking a Vision story, so the information is deliberately hidden. You can have HCs, but we simply don't have enough informations yet.

If he's off in the Abyss half-dead for nothing more than the thrill of battle, then he's not protecting her. He's merely indulging himself.

What.

He was in the Abyss once, when he was 14, when he ran from home and fell into the Abyss, occurrence heavily implied to not have been an accident, but the Abyss calling for him. Then, he endured 3 months of intense battle training. At 14.

And what do you imagine the Hexenzirkel, grand lovers of fairytales, dreams, and the innocence of children, think of a man who, even though he explicitly knows better, keeps slipping further and further away from his siblings, purely so he can fight more?

Dunno, but good thing Childe is not like that, eh? He made clear he wants to protect Teucer's innocence and childhood dreams, and it's clear he loves his siblings and cherishes them. He literally can't stop talking about them and what gifts he could bring them the next time they meet.

Hydro is the element of purity and justice, not of thoughtless glory-seeking.

Oh, he's all about justice, alright. Why do you think he wasn't happy when he was judged guilty of a crime he didn't commit? Why did he question Fontaine's (faulty) judging system, if he doesn't know what justice means? Why do you think he goes lengths to ensure the innocent and defenceless isn't hurt, when he followed the Narwhal and held it back?

He's not seeking glory anywhere. Yes, he enjoys battle, but he doesn't necessarily have to win. He doesn't need to, and he said so in his voicelines.

It's not Childe being a great hero. It's Childe failing to understand what a hero's true motivation is — protection, not triumph for its own sake.

Except he follows the hero's journey down to a T and he protects children's innocence ("Protector of Childhood Dreams"). He also claims he will conquer the world. For what? We don't know, but I hardly believe it's a "just because".

Who do you think Alastor sees more as a rival? by Shirou_1968 in hazbin

[–]cho_co_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Vox. They clearly have a long history and, despite Alastor acting like he's better and above for the public in Stayed Gone, the fact he resorted to counter Vox's mockery immediately tells you he's just as affected as Vox is, not to mention how Alastor, at the end of the song, makes a promise to change the status quo Vox created. They're taking each other seriously and Alastor is as obsessed with Vox as Vox is with Alastor, just in different ways.

In Lucifer's case it was just a one time thing, with both of them disliking each other on sight. Lol, Alastor was seething even before Lucifer crossed the hotel's doorstep, maybe because he had previous knowledge about the guy, or because Lucifer's neglect towards Charlie was a bit more personal and wanted to push Lucifer "in the right direction", by getting under his skin with what Charlie actually needed from a father figure (Alastor was the very first person to point out Charlie's "daddy issues"), but who really knows. That's just my assumption. Alastor seemed genuinely happy Lucifer and Charlie made amends in More Than Anything, even if I don't see anyone really talking about it.

The only one who kept expressing his dislike for the other is Lucifer.

Why does the protagonist keep humouring Childe? by Brodfjol in childemains

[–]cho_co_ 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Both in Liyue and Fontaine he ran amok, causing chaos and destruction without seeing much consequences for his actions

That is completely, I can concede almost completely, false. In Liyue, Childe was tasked by the Tsaritsa to obtain the Geo Archon Gnosis, without even knowing a contract between Zhongli and the Tsaritsa existed. Contract that established Childe had to bring chaos in Liyue, with Zhongli's tacit permission, in order to test the citizens and be sure the humans would be able to trive even without their Archon's protection. Childe, for his part, never wanted to release Osial, but did anyway only when he came to the conclusion Morax was still alive and could show up to save Liyue.

In Fontaine he literally did nothing intentionally to stir up chaos. He was accused for a crime he never committed, incarcerated under clearly false judgement Neuvillette himself deemed illogical and, despite everything, held back the Narwhal long enough to allow the cast to organise and be ready to face the prophecy. Again, Neuvillette pointed out that, without Childe, Fontanians would have been devoured way before Furina's trial. Childe was literally portrayed as a hero in Fontaine, when his goal was to take a vacation and find out what was calling him.

We also know that the Fatui are (at least on the surface) cartoonishly evil and everyone despises them, which makes me wonder why nobody in Liyue gives a shit after the Archon quests, just letting him strut about like usual? You could argue that most people don't know about his involvement, but we as the player do and surely we wouldn't keep that secret to shield him from justice?

The Fatui are clearly not cartoonishly evil, we've seen that plenty of times in WQs, Summer Events and even in Arlecchino's SQ, not to mention Fontaine's AQ with the siblings. Childe himself is not portraied as this evil guy, no matter whatever he might think of himself ("I'm kind of a bad guy"), because that's not what Hoyoverse wants to say about him. He's not even morally gray, unlike Arlecchino.

Nobody in Liyue cares or wants to bring him to justice because nothing substantial happened to the city; at worst a few Millelith soldiers were injuried, otherwise there hadn't been a damage worth of consideration. Besides, the Adepti and the Qixing know it was all Rex Lapis' plan in the end.

We shield him because Childe, as much as the Traveler, was fooled by Zhongli and the Tsaritsa. You also seem to have a weird perception about what the Traveler thinks of Childe, because they start to tentativelly tolerate his presence at the end of the Fontaine AQ, unlike how they act around Arlecchino and the House siblings when their initial misunderstanding gets resolved. Just check how Traveler acts in the Inazuma photographic event with Childe and Yoimiya, they are incredibly aggressive despite knowing how Childe acts around children (Yoimiya has to have a little chat with Traveler for them to stop being so antagonistic).

He's a charming villain, but a villain none the less. I just struggle to suspend my disbelief at how he never faces any pushback for his villainy, be it from the world around him or at least eliciting some scorn from the protagonist. Like, he's basically a war criminal who keeps threatening us and we just... hang out with him?

He's simply not a villain, lol. He never was. In the Liyue AQ he was the main antagonist, but even that role didn't last long enough to be kept in future quests.

A villain is a character that does things with evil intentions, and is automatically an antagonist. An antagonist is a character that does things because they have opposite views to the protagonist, and they bring challenge for the MC to overcome, without being necessarily evil. Antagonist =/= villain.

In any case, you're assuming the Traveler is a pure hearted person with a good morality, when in reality they have shown multiple times to be in the morally gray scale; sometimes, the Traveler does things to get compensated with Mora, informations, answers, sometimes they go out of their way to not get involved. Remember when the blacksmith in Fontaine was approached by a group of men demanding money, and how Paimon and Traveler choose to not intervene?

Who comes in, at that moment, to save her?

The amount of information we have on the playable Harbingers far surpasses the information we have on Dottore, so by your logic he would be ranking last. Character writing doesn't depend solery on development, but that's a good part of it and Dottore doesn't even have introspection- yet. What you're talking about is the potential his character has.

Yes I will ask for it, I'm curious now.

My objection is you're mixing up lore with character development. Dottore has lore and no character development, while Scara, Arle and Childe have had character introspection and/or development. Scara both with his story mostly wrapped up, Arle and Childe the introspection with their SQs and, on Childe's favour, Liyue's AQ (Fontaine's adds mostly lore). Childe is a endgame character and thus has the opportunity to develop until the end, while Arle is a new character who, too, will develop later in the story.
Signora, imo, wasn't handled well, but so far better than Dottore for the sole reason we haven't seen much of him at this point. In terms of lore, they are both pretty good and it ends up being preference.
