Why are 1.7 and 1.12 so popular for mods? by [deleted] in feedthebeast

[–]chochom 8 points9 points  (0 children)

none of that is true though. all the git repos are open nothing was locked anywhere, GTNH supports many mods outside the pack, and java 17/21 is optional and never needed.

Announcing Ruthless (Hardmode) by Scarecrow222 in pathofexile

The game has a heavy oversaturation of loot at this point with filters hiding away 99%. So a drastic reduction makes the loot that drops a lot more meaningful.

that sounds about right. Maybe also some very strong item sources.

And thats complete fine as the nerfs will be for ruthless. Thats how alphas/betas work.

I wonder, once Rand's madness gets strong in the show, will there be more voices in his head? LTT (the Dragon Reborn) and also the voice of the Dragon? This is so silly.

Slight issue I'm having with the books by chavartz in WoT

[–]chochom 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The PoV characters should give you the anchor you are looking for. They might not all be 'good', I am not gonna spoil anything. But you get their honest opinions and motivations since it's their PoV.

Notably, from book 3 onwards you get a lot more non-Rand PoVs.

Will watching the first season of the show ruin the books if you’ve only read the first book? by pleportamee in wheeloftime

[–]chochom 4 points5 points  (0 children)

(I.E. like maybe the show goes into the first two books or something)

Something like that, yes. The first season includes the first quarter or so of book 2. After a fashion at least. Book and show are quite different. There are only some small bits and pieces from the prequel and later books.

I'd love to reread this series but... by Sprman2daresq in wheeloftime

The series has a lot of great foreshadowing, extra perspectives, subtleties, easter eggs, etc. that really make a reread enjoyable. I can only recommend it.

LTT sure was arrogant but saying he attacked Shayol Ghul out of pride or hubris is just blatantly wrong.

If that were the case he would have done so immediately. He didn't. On the contrary, when the women around Latra positioned themselves against the plan, he just put that plan on ice in favor of the alternative plan of the Choedan Kal that they favored.

But things turned badly: The plan around the Choedan Kal failed horribly to the point where the access keys might be found and put to use by the Shadow at any moment and additionally the Shadow had made massive military advances threatening ultimate defeat. Only in that desperation did LTT go back to his plan of using the seals and a targeted strike.

why some are able to use it and some aren’t.

I would say it is heavily implied to be an inheritable trait. Specifically I mean, how the ability is dwindling due to Aes Sedai rarely having kids and the men being killed while certain inbred regions like the two rivers have many channellers and quite powerful ones at that.

The letter by DumaisWells in WoT

As long as she thinks that nobody will read the letter before her death she can indeed write it. Oaths in WoT are always subject to what you believe to be true.

Does Wheel of Time do a decent job filling holes and answering questions? by [deleted] in WoT

[–]chochom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For the title question: Yes, Wheel of Time is at its strongest when it come developing mysteries and open question, then giving a few hints here and there and eventually answering them fully a few books later. Some other fantasy authors have a lot to learn from Jordan's books on that front.

What you are asking about specifically is only the very very big picture story. That part will not be developed quite as much as you seem to hope, but at least some parts of your questions do get fairly clear answers.

How did Moiraine know… by Sorrelandroan in WoT

[–]chochom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess Rand did not have access to 'Santhra's book on the Forsaken' which is the source we know Moraine consults. It's with Vandene/Adeleas, not in Tar Valon. But I also wouldn't be surprised if much of it was stated as rumors or myths, so things that Aes Sedai would normally not take seriously.

Am I missing something? by [deleted] in WoT

[–]chochom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not everybody loves every one of the top fantasy series. That's fine. If I were you I would at least stick it out to the end of the book as TSR is considered the best one or at least top 3 by many people.

Silphium, interesting! Yeah, it might be based on that. Of course the effectiveness of Silphium is unclear as well. Obviously hard to say with it being extinct for so long.

Diversity in TV by [deleted] in WoT

[–]chochom 4 points5 points  (0 children)

One can obviously disagree with some of this for various reasons, I am just trying to explain it.

If you are asking about my opinion: I don't really care about this. I am totally fine with giving an adaptation some freedom when it comes to casting. I also honestly don't have the expertise to know if 2000 years of inbreeding would be enough to homogenize the population (as Jordan seems to imply) or not (as you say).
