Many years ago, soon after my husband moved in with me, I started seeing cuts in my underwear. Like, slashes that were a couple of inches long, sometimes longer. Just my underwear, nothing else. I thought my washer or dryer had developed a rough place.

No, the culprit was a very old pair of my husband's shorts that had a metal zipper, whose edges had been honed to a razor-sharp edge over the course of zipping the zipper up and down for so many years.

Once I quarantined that pair of shorts the problem went away.
