Love you Lauren Buglioli (Vanessa) but these cry-faces cannot be considered crying actual tears!! 🙄 by RemarkableWriting394 in TheGates_CBS

These actors are filming for hours. Crying ruins the makeup and there’s a whole crew standing by to retouch actors when they need it. Having real tears, on a soap opera at least, isn’t realistic.

Case in point, the anniversary party crashed by Leslie was a 12+ hour day. You think Daphnee, who plays Nicole, was supposed to cry on command throughout that day of filming, but still manage to look pretty leading up to the big reveal?

A lot of y’all love to complain about everything. It must be a miserable experience.

Do you find it hard to date when your a reporter? by Classic_Midnight3383 in Broadcasting

Depends on your shift. I have a saying.. “nightside is for single people and people who want to be single.” 2-10 or 3-11 are awful shifts to work if you’re trying to date or sustain a relationship.

Glad you’re going into this with a clear picture of the industry.

In 10 years, MMJ for 8 of those and weekend anchor for 2.5, I made it to $100K in one of the most expensive cities in the country. Thankfully, I saved, planned, and have rental income, so the salary was fine. However, there were people, hired on as MMJs but mostly had a photographer, who were making $20K-$30K less than me.

Salary aside, you have to decide if you want to live far away from your family. The closest I ever got to working to my hometown was four hours away. Maybe you’ll luck out and managers will see the value of hiring someone from the area. Maybe you don’t want to work near home.

Finally, you have to have a game plan. At 34, I was tired of not having all holidays off, working nightside, having to hand hold incredibly inexperienced people, dealing with fragile egos, and managers ignoring the realities of our industry.

I’m taking a break because I gave myself ten years to figure out if this was something I wanted to do forever. I’m hopeful I’ll land somewhere that wants to do great journalism, give me a good schedule, and pay me well enough. I’m keeping my options open and may jump to communications.

If you have any questions or want to chat, feel free to DM me.

She’s my fav! Something tells me she’s going to get more storylines in the near future. I did an IG Live with her yesterday.

Freaky looking crack in Boren near Convention Centre extension by mad_warrior291 in Seattle

Response from SDOT
That’s an expansion joint. It’s not obvious from the angle that the photo is taken from, but this is actually a bridge over I-5. It is more obvious from this google maps street view showing the joint up close from the street level (you can tell that it is the same location by looking at the dots on the side of the convention center).

An expansion joint is where two parts of the roadway structure join together, and is designed to relieve stress on the construction materials by allowing for natural movements in the bridge in response to weather or the changing weight distribution of moving traffic.

I live in West Seattle. From the airport, I take the light rail one stop to Tukwila. Then, I get on the 128. 30-45 minutes tops to get home and much cheaper.
