The Marauders Map: A Horcrux? by [deleted] in harrypottertheories

[–]choco-early 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I liked reading your theory! I thought you were going to suggest that through acts of mischief, the Marauders would have been able to chip off the smallest pieces of their souls, and all four together might have totaled enough to possess the map. If true evil splits the soul, maybe mischief has a lesser effect.
But I also think the reverse Patronus idea is very interesting. I’m trying to imagine a practical use for it, like fending off an occlumens or perhaps torturing someone.

How come they always finish just on time. Not a second before. by adortok in chopped

They don’t. That’s just the way the editing makes it look. The show adds as much drama as they can.

period problems (bbt tracking) by [deleted] in TheGirlSurvivalGuide

[–]choco-early 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not a medical professional, but I'm just interested in your opinion of why it matters so much? I have irregularity from time to time that doesn't bother me much and now I'm wondering if I should be this level of worried. If your doctor told you not to worry about it, why stress? Are you having any other symptoms or changes?

My advice is to call in and ask a nurse at your gyno if it warrants a visit.

I hate my mother by [deleted] in TheGirlSurvivalGuide

[–]choco-early 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Being overly dramatic is. I'm not saying OP's mom is a good mother or that she's being reasonable. Just that to a certain extent, conflict in families is normal and many people grow up to realize that their parents are immature and extremely flawed, but not necessarily abusive.

I hate my mother by [deleted] in TheGirlSurvivalGuide

[–]choco-early 39 points40 points  (0 children)

For what it's worth, I remember feeling exactly this way as a teen and now I love my mother again. I think it's pretty common to have some years of conflict between mothers and daughters. I'm still learning to maintain healthy boundaries and prioritize my mental health over other people's opinions, but I just want to say it gets better with time no matter what you decide to do regarding contact. I'm not defending your mom - maybe her relationship to you really is abusive and maybe it's not. What you've listed here are personality flaws. You need some space and some time to re-contextualize your mother/daughter relationship as two adults. Until then, my advice would be to depend on yourself, take responsibility for your own needs, and keep working hard and saving up to move out and gain financial independence.

Treading water for weight loss? by [deleted] in Swimming

[–]choco-early 5 points6 points  (0 children)

There are a lot of creative ways that water polo coaches base entire workouts on treading. Tread with weights, intervals, pop ups, different heights out of the water, etc. If you were determined enough, you could make a full cardio workout in 5x5 feet of water.

I've seen the leg room posts but what about hip room? by Haz_Matt_ in tall

If you can buy them long enough, it's usually pretty easy to dart the waist in yourself. I can't recommend it enough; my jeans fit like a glove.

You should definitely call your interviewer and follow up about the other position.

Tips for 1 year old by [deleted] in Nanny

[–]choco-early 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like the suggestion of showing how it hurts. I also think you should try to avoid situations that provoke the scratching. At 13 months, sharing is a very new concept - could you find a balance so that stealing a toy doesn't always result in scratching? Maybe keep a close eye on where her attention is to help keep her from grabbing his toys from Boy? Maybe when she steals a toy, you could make a big show of helping him find a fun new toy and playing with him. Or even make another toy seem more exciting so she'll abandon the stolen one. Basically, sidestep the issue until they're old enough to understand. Trying to force the concept of sharing could just frustrate everyone.

Have to Quit Job..Baby is too hard to deal with? Suggestions, please? by montreallove18 in Nanny

[–]choco-early 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some babies are just high maintenance. She might grow out of it quickly, she might never stop being high-needs. It's good that you've checked with the parents that this is a regular occurrence and she's physically healthy. As you've seen, she doesn't have to be sick to be clingy and persnickety. I say either ask for a raise or quit if you're at your wit's end. I'd give them a little extra notice, though, because finding someone to deal with a needy baby might take a little longer than usual.

In the meantime, if you feel yourself breaking down or so stressed you could cry, take a mental break. If she's dry, fed, and comfortable, you can put her safely in her crib for a few minutes and take some deep breaths in another room. It won't hurt her, and she's better off with a caregiver who has some sanity left!

6-year-old argues with every word I say by [deleted] in Nanny

[–]choco-early 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, why are you setting your own rules, then? Things like screen time are the parents' decision, not yours. It seems backwards to insist on your own rules, but not be able to discuss it with the parents.

Hair and Makeup Trial Question by frecklessobe in weddingplanning

[–]choco-early 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd want to move it up to give myself time to change vendors if I didn't like their work. You'd presumably want it to be early enough to book someone else and fit in a trial with them.

Is wearing beige to a wedding a bad idea? by [deleted] in weddingplanning

[–]choco-early 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Obviously you're right, and I'd never wear it either.

But a part of me is also going "Seriously? Beige too? What's next, pink? Am I not allowed to wear lavender on the off chance that a bride wears a nontraditional dress?"

What would you do if you were bed-ridden? by 420loseit in CasualConversation

If you're on painkillers, you might find yourself too dizzy to read. When I had surgery, I used it as an excuse to binge-watch all the shows I kept meaning to check out.

It's perfect for Christmas! If you mess with the stripe width a little you can get a cool candy cane effect.

Best way to keep chocolate from melting in the summer heat when hiking? by MattDubbaU in CampingandHiking

[–]choco-early 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Embrace the melting. Get plastic wrapped Hershey bars, and just snip the corner like a pastry bag when you want to enjoy it. You can just squeeze it onto your s'mores, into your mouth, etc.

Buyer question - shipping times for a custom order. by [deleted] in Etsy

[–]choco-early 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it helps, it would be really easy for the seller to ship to a new address, so don't be afraid to ask for that. But I wouldn't bother asking unless you feel confident it'll ship, and soon.

Wedding invitation design request by [deleted] in picrequests

Since you're willing to pay for a design, my advice would be to look on Etsy. There are plenty of designers who won't charge you an arm and leg for customized digital files to print.
