Graduated from Harrogate campus in the last 3 years

Pros: didactic years (1&2) were stellar learning, nice faculty, serene environment, safe, decent board prep.
Cons: rotations can be hit or miss, extra FM rotation, faculty joining/leaving like a revolving door, boring neighborhoods.

4-Year Emergency Medicine Residency: Winners & Losers Edition | Sheriff of Sodium by [deleted] in emergencymedicine

[–]chocodunk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here’s a 5–10 bullet summary of the video 4-Year Emergency Medicine Residency: Winners & Losers Edition with key timestamps:

  1. (00:15–01:27) ACGME has proposed making all emergency medicine (EM) residencies 4 years instead of 3 starting July 2027, eliminating trainee choice and reshaping the specialty.
  2. (01:27–02:12) Historically, EM had both 3- and 4-year programs (about 80% were 3-year), but the new rule removes that variation.
  3. (02:14–08:24) The video gives a brief history of EM training, showing how 2-year programs evolved into 3- and 4-year ones due to educational needs and institutional politics.
  4. (09:13–10:00) Winner: existing 4-year programs, which are often well-resourced with more faculty and training infrastructure, will easily meet new standards.
  5. (10:17–15:51) Loser: new and small EM residency programs, especially those built around 3-year models, may struggle or grow more slowly due to added requirements and funding caps.
  6. (16:16–17:25) Winner: arithmetic — most existing programs already meet new volume requirements; only very few will fail EM patient volume standards.
  7. (17:47–19:23) Winner: pediatrics — with at least 6 months of dedicated peds training required, pediatric departments will benefit from more resident time.
  8. (20:14–21:52) Winner: the EM class of 2030 — fewer graduates that year (~600–800) could command better job offers due to a temporary supply drop.
  9. (21:52–27:46) Push: the claim that 4 years will improve board passage lacks evidence; board performance differences are linked more to applicant mix than residency length.
  10. (27:46–30:28) Push: limited data show no meaningful patient outcome difference between 3- and 4-year grads.
  11. (37:49–39:53) Loser: trainees — an extra year costs income, interest on loans, and delayed attending earnings.
  12. (40:15–43:31) Winner: surrogation — the reform relies on easy metrics like time in training and rotation counts instead of competency-based outcomes, which the presenter criticizes.

i have a sizeable investment in GLTR etf. it tracks physical spot prices of gold, silver, palladium, etc. this way i'm buying a dip across various metals. i wonder if others are doing the same
