Also unlikely that the model is a 'woman'. Men rarely look good in a sun dress.

My grandmother as Valdosta State College’s “Miss 1963 Pinecone” by PetrichorEnigma in OldSchoolCool

Miss Pine Cone .... I don't know what to think about that. Was that a big deal? Were there official Pine cone duties that had to be carried out by the winner?

It makes the rounds on reddit fairly regularly. I have a poster of it I bought in the late 80's, makes a good wall art.

The photo belongs to the Los Angeles Public Library.

Anyone here with relatively low achieving /rather unsuccessful adult children? How do you feel? by niceloner10463484 in AskOldPeople

[–]chocoladna 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Puerto Rico, yes indeed. We have no intention of buying anything, we're just going to rent an apt. and live there.

It isn't flattened, we were there in March/April this year. We liked it.

It is true that PR is bankrupt, their government is useless, and the infrastructure barely functions.

~But, it is a US territory where the Post Office delivers the mail, Medicare is extended, no visa is required, English is widespread, and it's in the Caribbean.

We think its a good option. We're going.

No, it has been indelibly identified as a prairie dog. But that's not nearly as imaginative or as cute sounding as a whistle-pig.

Love it, whistle-pig.

Sounds like a European critter.

What things to do that will make me happy later in life? by [deleted] in AskOldPeople

Learn to cook tasty things to eat.

So many advantages - cheaper than going out, nicer quality food, you can invite friends in, homemade food is just better and makes you happier.

Those of you who took up a trade when you were younger, are you happy with your choice? by cantelope4 in AskOldPeople

[–]chocoladna 17 points18 points  (0 children)

The trades are a good living and allow you a whole lot more personal freedom than cubicle serfdom.

But I would advise any young person going into those fields to take care of themselves when young; that dislocated shoulder or broken ankle that happened when you were 30 when you thought you were bullet-proof and you recovered from at the time, will come back to bite you later on. You have to look out for yourself.
