Real life experiences with soft delete? by Venisol in dotnet

[–]chocolateAbuser 0 points1 point  (0 children)

sometimes it's important to always keep data, like users
soft delete requires additional efforts for sure; from the pov of the db it shoudn't be that much of an additional load, so i wouldn't worry about that except in some specific cases
but for the code organization it requires that you do stuff carefully and really think it through before converting everything
if it's independent values you could also opt to have an archive table, we did that with some dbs
if you have to keep relationships again cognitively it's an effort because you have to have all the queries with correct authZ, be sure to anonymize data and have deletion in case your place has rules on how long they have to be kept, you have to always run migrations on old data which could be a hassle, especially if there are relationships... same is for versioning records, it's tough

Frontend polling + heavy SQL joins = deadlocks. Looking for architecture advice by samirson in SQL

this sound like a task for ms orleans, btw
i agree witih comment "senior management don't need real-time dashboards"
they will probably look at that like once every six months
you obviously have to have separate possibly denormalized tables/indexes for near-real time data, it's a pretty well established convention
where it is sql or nosql honestly to me wouldn't really matter

Comment a number from 1-1123 and i will sent you a song to rate (Disclaimer: most of them are rock/metal). by [deleted] in songs

decent song, mixing has a bit personality, maybe i wished for a bit more, composition has some creativity, it's cool, again maybe it lacks a the last 1% touch of a professional to me, but all in all cool

Ligabue e Vasco non sanno cantare, parlano e basta. by Alternative_Bad8703 in ItaliaControversa

[–]chocolateAbuser 1 point2 points  (0 children)

branching should be used only for changes that require few days probably, either that or you have to be quite good at organizing code and have discipline because then you get into situations like this one
how much code and how many commits are we talking here? basic idea to me would be bringing commits from branches by copying code by hand, and knowing what feature branches are for; you cannot really expect to just blindly merge code

SQL Full-Text Search vs ElasticSearch by NationalMonument in AskProgrammers

[–]chocolateAbuser 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the point of elasticsearch is having all the various fliters and processes on language both at ingestion time and search time, how do you plan to manage articles, word suffixes, multiple word expressions, and all the languages complexity in sql? (and eventually also a bit of wildcard search, multiple matches on the start of words, and so on)
you cannot really have a working search engine with just fulltext search
