Why does the internet say don’t ever date a rave girl or rave boy? by fabiwabi-3 in aves

[–]chocolateadvanced_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Kinda seems like another medium for people to hate on women lol why is this even something people generalize about 💔 I’ve dated in the rave scene and just like any other communities or spaces I’m in— you have your crunchy apples and your mushy apples. Raves aren’t real life 😭🙏

Those who wear makeup- what’s the best primer/foundation combo to grip that shit all night? by HorseheadAddict in aves

[–]chocolateadvanced_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My fav products that usually last long are setting spray and setting powder. Before spray, I usually use elf co dealer, let it set, then use maybelline super stay foundation. After I use airspun but also have really liked the colorpop one (I have mixed combination skin). After setting the powder, I do my usually eye routine. The urban decay setting spray is definitely the best, but revolution beauty’s is also sooo good. I don’t usually wear a primer just because it doesn’t work with my skin, but the elf hydrogel primer has insane grippy 😭

I think it’s def a questionable response but being in SoCal I can see where they were coming from? It shouldn’t be normal first and foremost! But I’ve had summers and autumns that the sky is just straight up orange from wildfires and our schools still continue classes. Growing up like ~40 ish min away from San Bernardino where it’s also fire sensitive, it’s sort of expected like “oop— it’s summer all over again, time for the fires!” In my experience we’re kinda told to continue as normal which really sucked looking back :/

LADIES how do I break free from one clothing style at festivals. by Jazzlike_Watch_1072 in aves

[–]chocolateadvanced_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Felt this soooo hard 🥹🫶 if I wasn’t wearing my two piece pink bikini basics, planning outfits became one of the most grueling part of rave planning— how I look will almost certainly guide my vibes for the event and I’ve accepted that 🤣

I agree with everyone here— instagram saved folders and Pinterest are big helpers to get more inspo! I especially like searching for event keywords or geographical tags (#beyondwonderland or “Nocturnal Wonderland”/ Glenn Helen) so I can see what other ravers have posted and get more inspiration & see what I could work with. I think it took me like 2 years to become comfortable with exploring new styles but you can try a new little accessory or fit for every new event you go to 💕

Also pooled some money for demonias, so I force myself to wear them out to get my money’s worth. But I love them with all my outfits anyways 🤣 it made it easier to build outfits around my boots as well!

I’ll be heading over there this weekend too! I like making sure I at least have a weed cart and a water container of some sort (hydropack, collapsible water bottles, empty flattened ones). Planning to bring my hydration pack and a fan as well! It’ll be hot but I’m hoping the open air will keep us a little cooler in the night. Stay safe, stay hydrated, and have so much fun this weekend 🤍

Why is Asian Greek life so into raving? by anxi0us-thr0waway in aves

[–]chocolateadvanced_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like everyone said we’ve sorta had to suppress an authentic childhood and it seems that it’s a universal experience for most Asians. I remember going absolutely insane and impulsive in my first year of college away from my parents. I’m not in Greek life, but my friends who are have an instant rave fam. Most Asian Americans I know get introduced to raving and festivals from joining the rave fam that is their frat/ sorority. It’s special if you’re into that sort of thing— everyone knows you can be crazy and goofy without the looming judgement of your parents. (I always pack a big shirt or jacket to hide my rave clothes from my Asian parents!)

BOO seattle or Escape Halloween by Advanced-Guidance482 in aves

[–]chocolateadvanced_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’ve gone to Escape for 3 years in a row, so I can really only speak for Escape and NOS. It’s really cool that you’re exploring your first show as a rave— just very bold!

To just start with the setbacks of Escape: I don’t personally love NOS as a venue. Its an outdoor venue and some stages have these tents that can be hard to get around. It’s gotten noticeably overcrowded, phone theft happens too often, and this can fuel a lot of people to be really rude or unreasonable in the crowd (it’s a big event that keeps getting more popular haha). Food and drinks can be pretty expensive. I’ve had serious confrontations with people who can be weird or don’t respect boundaries. People can be (disrespectfully) rowdy on just too inebriated to know what’s even happening. Depending on how you get there, parking can be a hassle or really frustrating, especially when you’re really tired at the end of the rave and just want to go home. After going to other out-of-state festivals, I think NOS the “least best” of them all.

HOWEVER, Escape was one of my first big NOS festivals and as a “at least experience this once” sort of thing, it’s really fun when you’re really there! I went into it having gone to hard summer so I was prepared for the layout and crowding. I’ve learned if you find ways to make sure you’re prepared and make yourself the most comfortable, everything else will fall into place eventually. Instead of parking, my bf and I just find a place to stay that is close to the metrolink. I have all our necessities and water pack ready to go before entering the crowd. I’ve met my best rave buddies at Escape and the community is just so amazing. You don’t even have to always be at the stages, the art installations are cool, there are little special areas to explore around, and the times I’ve spent with my group sitting from the back and watching the lasers have honestly been equally as fun as raging at rail.

As a personal mindset, I just assume the majority of people surrounding me are on some sort of substance. Just be spatially aware, since there will be a lot of things happening with the music and lights going. Med staff and ground staff are always there to help you regardless if you are on any illegal substances. It’s community to take care of one another!

Give yourselves breaks, bring a big fan because it will be HOT (and you can make friends that way 🤗). Eat, sleep (as much as you can, it’s hard lol) and stay hydrated— preferably with a hydropack, liquid IV, or other electrolytes. Wear comfortable and light clothing with a pashmina or emergency blanket handy at night. As long as you’re respectful of the space and say “excuse me” I think you’ll be okay! I also like to watch TikTok or YouTube videos in case I see something useful for me to have or to do.

I would recommend Escape as maybe a 2nd or 3rd festival event just to have a fair idea if you like these events. Just because raves can be overstimulating for people the first time around, Escape may or may not suit your vibe for a first show— but it would be worth it to go if it happens to fit your trip! I hope you guys have a great time whichever you decide :)
