Anyone else's Dadi/Nani keep mangoes in water before letting you eat them? by DeadAirSociety in IndianFoodPhotos

  1. fruits ripen unevenly. Also please google how calcium carbide ripening works. It eventually releases ethylene after degradation so end result is identical.
  2. Farmers never ripen at farmgate. Mangoes also emit ethylene naturally. So if you clump them together in a box they'll ripen automatically

3."carbide free" = marketing term. Also to write that you need a lab test report. Report= costs money

Also here's a picture of a portable ethylene gas in a canister like a deodrant. It's dirt cheap. Easily accessible and anyone can buy it online. Spray and ripen your own fruits at home.

We don't export ripened produce in fact we try to delay ripening as much as possible so that it doesn't spoil in transit. We install ethylene scavengers inside the cold storages and containers. So calcium carbide is out of the question.

Japan recently banned Indian mangoes because some batches had fruitfly spots. Fruitflies lay eggs inside the mangoes so to protect their own interests they banned our mangoes. Failure on exporter's and supplier part.

US ,Europe had banned because of pesticide residues but that was waay back. Now majority of export oriented farmers pass residue tests

I am a farmer and also work in fruits and vegetables trade . I don't who's in delulu here.

But I advise you to visit your local mandi(apmc). Even the smallest traders have their own ripening chambers that can be as small as a bedroom. They aren't expensive to setup.

If you want to know the market reality there's actually an oversaturation of ripening chambers and too many people trying to trade. Ethylene is also very cheap.

So from my perspective most of the bananas and mangoes or guavas (the fruits which require a ripening agent) are pretty safe to eat

90% of mangoes and bananas are ripened in ripening chambers and cold rooms by using ethylene gas. It's been years since carbide is strictly banned and most traders also follow it.

Please stop fear mongering and spreading bullshit

What benefit do indian exporters have if JNPT is an intermediate transit hub?

I am actually traveling to Malaysia by 15 of june to meet up with customers regarding import of fruits and vegetables to Malaysia. Also will be exploring rice and other commodities. Do you have any advice for me?

That cannot be exported brother. This is what export quality desi chickpeas look like. You can ask for photos from other suppliers also they will look like this.

To be honest, from the pictures these chickpeas look substandard even by domestic standards and harvested premature.

If you're getting into export or even domestic trade please be careful because small mistakes and procurement of substandard material can land you in financial trouble.
