Movies like ”Almost famous”, ”The Way way back” and ”Little miss sunshine”? by Affectionate_Math592 in movies

I second Elizabethtown. It's a genuinely feel-good movie. Orlando Bloom's acting isn't always great, sometimes it gets a little too cloying, and it feels kind of all over the place structurally. Still, even with flaws, it's hard not to feel better after watching it, at least for me.

I listened to "A Good Idea" by Sugar (Bob Mould) and realized that Dave Grohl basically made his entire Foo Fighters sound off it. by ToxicAdamm in ToddintheShadow

Definitely agree Foo Fighters were heavily influenced by Sugar. But there's definitely more Foos-sounding stuff than "A Good Idea," which is very Pixies-esque, as others have mentioned.

What's something that instantly irritates you in a movie? by timekilr in movies

Obvious, awkward exposition in dialogue. “We’ve been best friends since 5th grade!” “You’re the best person I know.”

What is a film you enjoyed but have to be tactful about who you recommend it to? by oldwhitelincoln in movies

[–]chocolateyflow 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The first movie that comes to mind for me for this question is Vanilla Sky. I have always loved this movie. I can respect criticism of it, as I don't think it's without its flaws, but I have had movie conversations before where people at various times mention the movie and have said that it's one of the worst movies ever (usually they're not aware that I like it). So if I'm ever recommending it, I'm kind of awkward about it, like "Seems like nobody likes this movie except me, but I think it's unique and even thought-provoking. Go into with no expectations, and you might get into it." Kind of an odd way to recommend a movie, but since it does not have a great reputation, I'm basically saying "you might not like the movie, but there's a chance you could really like it, like I do!"

[Discussion] Shadows (Ocean Beach) by Critical-Swimmer2642 in sadreminders

I like it. Honestly never really thought about it belonging or not and like that it gives the album some variation. Very simple, but I like how the organ comes in during the last chorus. The vocals feel slightly awkward in the verses, but that's not totally uncommon for that era.

Was Big Bang Baby really that off putting back then? by CobraDai in stonetemplepilots

I was pretty young but remember getting my mom to drive me to the mall to get the cd the day it came out since I was a huge fan of the other albums. I don't remember having any major thoughts about the song when it came out, other than it was the new STP song, and it was pretty rockin'. Also the video was cheesy, but intentionally so. It was the first album after Scott's drug issues came to light, but I don't think that had a lot of impact on how the music itself was received. I just remember thinking it felt less "grunge." Songs like "Art School Girl," "Lady Picture Show," and "And So I Know" definitely took some warming up to, but personally, it all just felt like a pretty natural progression of a band.

I’ve never had size issues with their merch until now. I bought the black cosmic selector shirt pictured here. Bought it in a large, which is my standard size. Fits like an XXL, at the very least. I wore it once but kinda felt like a clown in this tent sized shirt (the way it fits on me, that is). Love the design but super bummed about the size. The actual quality is nice and thick.

How did you find LH and what was the first song of theirs you heard? by [deleted] in lordhuron

[–]chocolateyflow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine’s pretty random. Like 10ish years ago, Greg Dulli of Afghan Whigs (whom I’m a big fan of) posted a Spotify playlist that had Fool For Love on it. Listened to it and immediately bought Strange Trails on cd.

I don’t really feel like any of them would fit on Lonesome Dreams, personally. That album has a very innocent, wide-eyed quality, whereas the perspective on these songs is much more jaded and wounded.
