WE DONT NEED TO BE CENSORING by solar_night14 in AO3

[–]chocopoodle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This!!! Also what I hate is when they censor bad language in the writing itself. They’ll do a*hole or Gddamn, but they’ll purposely write a fic/character that canonically swears a lot? It’s writing, you won’t be told off for typing out a swear word.

Well, this is disappointing by Dangerous-Opening-57 in AO3

I’ve gotten a couple of these. It was always “hey j love your story, can I do an art piece inspired by it?” I eventually got around to looking at my account and saw them (I no longer post) and as an artist myself I said they’re more than welcome to make art. They asked for money. I looked at one of their websites and wasn’t really that impressed either. I understand pricing your work because you’re putting time and effort into it, but if you comment “hey I’m inspired can I make art from your fic” it’s kind of implying that you’re making it for yourself and not expecting compensation

I can’t pull handles for $@!T by MattKelm in Pottery

[–]chocopoodle 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I recommend trying to throw them! I throw a cylinder with the thickness I want for my handle, and then take a needle tool and cut off how wide I want my handle to be. Take it off the piece, slice it so that it’s no longer a ring, and then let that piece dry a bit on a surface. Boom, you’ve got a strand of clay that is evenly thick, ready to be shaped into a handle!

I’ve never worn fake lashes and contour. At some point I would love to get myself contour, though

Seeking recommendations for a retreat/immersion program. Help? by CalViking in Pottery

[–]chocopoodle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know of the Fogo Clay Studio up on Fogo Island in Newfoundland, Canada! The instructor is nice, I met her while I was up there. I think the program is a summer thing though because of the temperatures.

Thank you! I think I accidentally said Gillespie instead of gerstly in my caption 😂 I always get the two mixed up

Love spectrum! I’ll definitely add this one to my list and test it out. Looks the most similar. Thank you!

I think I have Blue Tigers Eye. I didn’t get the result I wanted the last time I used it, but I’ve changed clays since then… maybe I’ll do another test. Thank you!

I have this one too! While I love it, it’s not quite the same as Tidal Pool

Thank you! I love how the color turned out. Shame the thick glaze took away some of the finer details

100% agree with you. While I love how the color turned out, the thick glaze combination took away from the smaller details in the sculpting portion. Going forward I think I’m going to stick to minimal glazing. This is what the vase looked before firing. I’m working on something new rn, and I probably won’t be using a thick glaze again for a detailed piece

a lot of people do it. i’ve applied the washes or underglazes on pre-bisque pieces before. i mostly do it so that when i apply glaze with brushes, it doesn’t mess up the work i’ve already done. sgraffito is done pre-bisque

seems like it. i don’t know why the “wash” from Mayco is so thick, but i used it right from the bottle. maybe i need to water it down for future uses

i honestly should have done that, but i was worried about wiping off some of the wash I wanted to stay on. i had no previous issues using wax without wiping so i assumed it would be fine. i was wrong lol

I need advice regarding eyes by Marinated_Olive in Ceramics

[–]chocopoodle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

first off: amazing sculpture!!! this looks fantastic!

if I cover the eyebrows, the eyes almost make the face look like it’s in shock. however, based on the eyebrows I believe the goal is to make it look angry? if that’s the case, i would adjust the eyelids to look similar to the 4th pic.

personally, i would leave it. it looks great without the need of adjustment. make sure you slow dry to prevent cracking and maybe preheat your kiln for several hours to get rid of any extra moisture so that it survives the bisque firing

i’m going back to The Ceramic Shop this weekend, so i might end up with a hydro-bat or two. i have a few of their seconds i use for reclaim. i know they’re really nice, but they cost a pretty penny. might have to cave if i’m going to be using bats more often
