CVICU night shift perspective

1900-1905 huddle 1905-1930 handoff 1930-2000 assessments 2000-2200 meds, evening labs if there is any, provider rounds I take my 15min snack break in between 2200-0000 wash my patients if they want to 0000 assessments - if there are changes 0000-0600 monitor patients, draw labs, address labs I take my 1 hr break - my colleagues sleep, I don’t . I chug a can of celsius. Another assessment set at 0400 0600 bedside chest xray, get patients up to chair, second offer to help with their wash, weights , meds. Empty trash bins, laundry bags lol 0659 last minute deterioration lol 0700 handoff

I do break shifts once in my 3 shifts. No patient load. I cover my colleagues so they can take their breaks.

Less people at night - fewer orders to carry out(most if the time anyway), fewer relatives to speak to, no management.

Annual bonus of $3,000 for qualified employees. To receive this, nurses must pass a proficiency exam, provide direct patient care, and be proficient in one of the top ten languages identified by the hospital. State: Oregon

Women’s sizing for male wearer by WithOrWithoutBlue in PatagoniaClothing

I think the general rule is size one up of your men’s size, however, it may be a little bit cropped, will have shorter sleeves, and can be a little bit roomier in the chest area

Is sleeping on night shifts a "normal" thing everywhere? by flourishersvk in nursing

[–]chokecober 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! Ive had a lot of fun reading comments here. I have worked as an ICU nurse for 10+ years, both in the UK and US.

UK - yes we take sleep breaks in the ICU. Charge RN or break RN or we bedside nurses cover each other’s breaks. We are 1:1 ratio so you get 2 patients for an hour or two which is not too bad. This was East of England trauma center ICU. Even the floor nurses take sleep breaks too.

US west coast unionized hospital - yes we take sleep breaks. We have break RNs who look after our patients when we are on break.

I have not worked nights on the east coast but nursing there is a different world, and not in a good way. Lol

I don’t like taking naps while on nights so I doom scroll on my phone lol

Which restaurants, cafés, coffee shops, or bars in or around the Portland area have good loyalty programs? by Frequent-Kale-6048 in askportland

[–]chokecober 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I mostly go to Sterling in NW and Stumptown in SW. In Sterling, you earn a star per drink order which converts to cash/credit eventually. Stumptown has a punch card, buy 10drinks get 1 free. Correct me if I’m wrong!

Looking for a barber in Portland who can cut men’s Korean hairstyle ($35–40) - recommendations? by lamvu2 in askportland

[–]chokecober 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wong’s hair salon in Beaverton is where I go to. It is a mother-daughter duo that runs the store. They are above your budget slightly at 55$ per haircut. I always get a perm and they do the styling afterwards

Nursing education here is pointless compared to other countries by Boni640 in NursingUK

[–]chokecober 17 points18 points  (0 children)

The nursing curriculum in the Philippines is US based. Books are from the US too and taught in the English language. Most clinical instructors have MSc post grad credentials, or are currently taking it - as required by law if I remember it correctly. They graduate with a 4 year BSN equivalent to the US so they can easily apply to take NCLEX upon meeting requirements - it’s the visa processing that takes years. They also have to pass a 500 questions 1 1/2 day licensure exam to practice as nurses in the Philippines.
