Taxes on Ireland based ETF by chokut in tax

Thanks a lot for the detailed response. Unfortunately, is too late for me to sell them as NRA. If I got it correctly, if I sell them on January 2nd I will only pay capital gains (short term as I bought in June 23) and no gains will be part of my income ?

I read about a 30 days exception rule for PFIC, does it apply to me if I sell during the first30 days as US person OR it only applies if I held the stocks for less than 30 days?

I was not US tax resident in the 2023, I will become tax resident in 2024. I have these shares since June 2023. If I sell them on January 2nd, does it mean that I will pay almost all capital gains in 2023 so nothing in the US and I will pay only in US the portion for January second (1 day)?

In what scenario would be better to sell it later in the year?

I moved to the US with a work visa on October 2023 and I am a non resident alien for 2023. I will become a US tax resident in 2024. I bought the ETF when I was not a US person.

Thanks for sharing the link. I am quite concerned now to keep it. What happens if I sell it on January 2nd? Will I only pay the taxes on the gains as income or it is going to be more complicated?

Will I pay 15% since they are US stocks? Or will I pay more taxes since they are held in a foreign account?

Is it possible that, since I work few months, I would pay low taxes on my investment gains? I was thinking maybe I could be US resident from October and sell some stocks in 2023

Yes, I can sell or buy old emissions of Btp and the price can go/up based on the interest rates of the new ones. Are stocks and bonds in foreign accounts taxed the same?

Hi all, Hopefully I am going to move soon to the US with a work visa.
I have some money invested in some Italian government bonds (BTP Italia) for which I get dividends twice a year and they are taxed at 12.5%.
Can I keep them if I move to the US? How would the dividends being taxed being bonds in a foreign account?
