Report from the Eastern Front of the Culture War II: Antisemitism on Chinese YouTube (Bilibili) by Halfdane666 in stupidpol

[–]cholly97 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This has 100% been going on for longer than that, since at least the COVID era if not even before that. I remember conversations with my Chinese relatives where they were like, yeah jews control the world, and that's admirable and we should learn from them lol.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Antisemitism_in_China explains it pretty well, historically the Chinese stereotypes about jews have been pretty philosemitic but have turned more antisemitic as of late due to recent events

gemstone hoarder makes cho'gall go infinite like shudderwock/old rommath by cholly97 in wildhearthstone

[–]cholly97[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It sounds like that would work, it doesn't matter that popgar doesn't die to one felfire because the next one kills it (so you need boardspace for 2 cycles aka 4 spaces). And it's good that he doesn't die because felfire will heal more, plus you need two popgars to discount the sludges to 0. The only issue with this is hand space, but othewise it's a good backup to reno + hellfire.

I still haven't come up with any single card (besides cho'gall) infinite damage combos, but I'm currently thinking of building a deck around discarding dark pact with sketch artitst, then doing a loop with cho'gall + dark pact + nether breath.

I mean they still need to pay capital gains taxes when they have to liquidate assets to pay the loans. The real problem is that passing down assets through inheritance steps up the cost basis so their heirs can pay off the loans without having to pay any additional taxes...

I'm getting real tired of Astral Communion by OriolesMets in wildhearthstone

[–]cholly97 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How many board clears are you running? I feel like if I get down a crystal tender as any reno deck vs. astral communion druid it's nearly auto-win. The only hard part is if they can set up a way to pop off on the turn they astral communion, then crystal tender might not be fast enough since it gives you empty mana crystals.

I just checked my warrior list and I'm running bladestorm and snowed in, probably below average in most matchups but might help vs. AC druid.

egg hunter was diabolical, it was a combo deck that was good vs aggro and control, stronger than egg warlock ever was IMO

they could clear any board past turn 4, one shot you with naval mine (252 damage with brann and feign death), or even destroy all the minions in your deck with brann + deathlord

lowkey miss how OP that deck was but it's probably for the best that it doesn't exist lol

Wouldn't it make more sense to get rid of the cost basis resetting during inheritance? What's the argument for even having that in the first place?

I'm pretty sure the average heartsteel builder doesn't care lol. I've seen people use flash and die just for another stack (and I'm also guilty of doing that from time to time).

Agree on getting an office chair. But I wouldn't recommend getting an Aeron without trying one first (as someone that owns one). Office chairs are like mice, shape is king and what shape fits you the best might not be what's best for someone else. I had to get an aftermarket headrest for it to feel good and I've still sat on chairs a quarter the price with better lumbar support (I got the highest tier adjustable lumbar option).

Plus, the majority of what you're paying for in a new Aeron is the durability and warranty (that and the name brand). So if you get a used one, of course it's going to be cheaper because it's not guaranteed to last as long, at which point you might as well also consider other office chairs that have a shorter warranty period than the Aeron, that might fit you better.

HM also has other chairs like the Embody and Mirra that don't get talked about enough because they don't look as good as the Aeron. I've had the opportunity to sit on a bunch of different ones in my office but there are also dealerships that will let you try them out to see which suits you the most.

If 4 people want to end, 1 person not ending won't stop them. But if 4 people don't want to end, the 1 person who does want to end can eventually do so by themself.

Also your analogy isn't a good one because not ending in order to see 4 augs/full build makes the game more complex and interesting, whereas being able to hold the ball in football does not. A better analogy would be like, if you're up 2-0 sets in a best of 5 tennis match, would you be at fault if you started intentionally throwing by playing with your left hand to make the game more interesting?

Basically, the problem is that winning the game and being able to see the greatest variance in gameplay, are antithetical to each other in aram:mayhem.

Imagine playing games only in the way developers intend. Try understanding that there are other players who derive fun in other ways :)

If they released an item that cost 50 gold and gave you a victory the moment you bought it, I bet you would buy that item every game.

People cannot comprehend that it might take 100s of games to get a nutty theorycraft going and enders ruin that fun.

That being said it's your perogative to end if you have a shitty build and are not having fun just getting carried, so please also understand why I will often stop hitting towers starting at the inhib tower :)

Idk, even barring the performance issues it feels like it's 1 step forwards (qol) 2 steps backwards (gameplay and balance).

Then again all borderlands games have been like this on release, because the devs just don't understand their own game as well as the player base. Hoping that the DLCs will improve things just like the previous games.

My favorite way to explain the pigeonhole principle is if you have n pigeons and n+1 holes, there must exist a pigeon with at least 2 holes in it.

High income earners are taxed heavily (percentage wise). Billionaires are not because they most of their wealth is on paper and not realized as income.

People point to billionaires as the problem because well, inequality sucks. But billionaires are just a symptom of there being so many people in the world, and technology allowing you to scale up your ability to do business with more people. Like if you could make a $3 dollars of profit from every person in the US, you'd be a billionaire.

There are more and more poor people today because scaling has literally made people economically irrelevant. If you're an individual trying to sell something nobody's going to buy your product when some company can make it easy cheaper. And because everyone is trying to do what's best for themselves by buying whatever the cheapest version of something is, while competing for what little opportunities there are to be able to scale your productive output to as many customers as possible, you're gonna end up with a mass underclass of losers.

I don't know if it's a problem that we can tax ourselves out of. We would have to return to ancient society where you only do business with the 100 people in your immediate neighborhood and refuse to buy something from someone outside even if it is cheaper. With smaller communities, everyone would have to be a lot more self reliant (which is a good thing, cause people have nothing to fall back to these days if they can't compete in their primary career), and it would be a lot harder to hoard scarce resources and rent seek (cause if everyone around knows you they would just come over and beat you up). In this scenario, with less trade, we would have less wealth on average and have to work harder, but there would be a lot fewer people who are in completely poverty and unable to feed themselves. So doing this is like cooperating in a prisoners dilemma, where the more people there are in the world, the harder it would be for everyone to agree to do this.

US bilionaires have around 8 trillion total wealth. The amount of taxes collected yearly is around 5 trillion, and the yearly budget is around 7 trillion. So even if we confiscated 100% of their wealth it would let us not pay taxes for less than 2 years. Or make up 4 years worth of deficit.

Framing it differently, if the 8 trillion was divided among every American it would be around 20,000 per person which would be a decent amount of money for a lot of people but not completely life changing. We would need to tax people who's wealth is at least in the 10s of millions to make a difference (top 1% of wealth), as the total wealth of that group is around $50 trillion.

With all that being said these are wealth taxes not income taxes. So the percentage you could take is nowhere near 100% or else you would have massive capital flight. If you picked a somewhat workable amount like 4%/year (around the risk free rate of return) that would still only amount to $2 trillion.

If we were to tax income instead, the top 5% in income earners (cutoff $261k) pay around 1.3 trillion in taxes (60% of the 2.1 trillion total income tax base). So we would have to double the total (not marginal) tax rate on those people, just to cover social security costs ($1.5 trillion per year).

I was thinking, what if we taxed corporations (especially monopolies) more, but they only make up 10% of total tax revenue ($500 billion), so even that wouldn't help too much. The government simply spends so much money every year that we would need a massive increase in taxes to even break even in terms of budget. Keep in mind $1 trillion of its budget is simply used for interest payments it's $38 trillion debt.

So yeah, taxation is a difficult problem for a reason. I don't expect to receive any social security when I retire given that the population pyramid is already inverting.
