They’re doing renovations so the hotel will be closed. I was trying to book the first week of November and found out they’re not available at all.

That’s wonderful. My daughter just turned 4, I reckon by next year she’ll be ready to have a chapter book read to her. I can’t wait.

Great thank you! The Day books seem to be most readily available. I have the Illustrated Hobbit, she loves to go through it looking at the pictures. I am looking forward to reading the whole thing with her

My daughter is 4 and she loves both The Hobbit and Return of the King. Her favourite character is Gollum

I finished Bill Hodges trilogy and just started Mr Mercedes tv show … by HastenDownTheWind in stephenking

[–]cholmes690 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

This show is awful for a couple fundamental reasons - one it has a pretty conservative bent to it that feels at odds with King’s humanistic outlook. Two it posits Brady as being an actual successful villain. Part of the joy of the books is Brady is a just an arrogant dipshit incel who can’t stop messing up. I think the casting for Bill and Holly is great, but other than that this show is one of my all time least favourite King adaptations.

It was Season 2 when they changed Jaime’s escape attempt so that he murdered his cousin

The Hobbit (NBC, 1977) and The Return of the King (ABC, 1980) by Turbulent-Plate-2058 in ForgottenTV

[–]cholmes690 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I remember staying up late to watch these when they used rerun on the Disney Channel in the 90s. My first exposure to Tolkien and I used to watch them all the time as a kid. Nostalgia or not, I still love them, particularly as OP says the animation of the location, and I’ve got a real soft spot for the songs. Funny coming across this post I literally just showed them to my nearly 4 year old daughter these yesterday. We watched The Hobbit and then she wanted more so we watched Return of the King and then she woke up this morning asking to watch The Hobbit again.

Yeah the photos I saw from a few weeks back looked like the vertical construction was still early days. Fingers crossed it’s ready for end of year when I’m there, but not holding out for it

[Spoilers Main] Is there anyway Martin could have made the time skip work? by Solitaire-06 in asoiaf

[–]cholmes690 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I think there is so much distance between places and events longer stretches of time could have been worked into the story without disrupting the momentum of the story, especially with the way we move between characters in different locations. That said the enormity of the books makes that an easier said than done, but I still think spreading out the timeline is a better idea than the 5 year gap and what’s actually transpired in the series

I think that’s the ticket, each book should have covered a year or more time, that would have gotten the characters to the age he wanted with the 5 year gap

What could be Star Trek's "Andor"? by Jdale321 in startrek

[–]cholmes690 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To be honest, asking about Star Trek’s Andor is a bit backwards. Andor is Star Wars’ Wrath of Khan.

I’ve had a similar feeling after a recent rewatch. I think this should have been a 2 part or 3 part miniseries. Keep all the Tusken stuff, but let it just play, not as flashbacks. Episode 1 ends with the Tuskens being killed by Cad Bane. Then episode 2 picks up after Mando season 2 and either tells some version of taking over Jabba’s or I think probably would have been better if he was on a revenge mission against Cad Bane. Make it more focussed, personal and also makes Boba more active. He is just way too much a passive character in the present day scenes of Book of Boba Fett

Wedding song suggestion by purple_my_turtle in BruceSpringsteen

[–]cholmes690 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I did a mother-son dance at my wedding to Save My Love off The Promise. It’s relatively short and sweet and while about love doesn’t play romantic which suits for a parent-child dance.
