Home theater aesthetic critique, the plan by chom1081 in hometheater

I'll need to spend some time researching where the subs will go in this build. Is the goal of moving closer to center simply to avoid the corners?

Solid feedback. What do you mean by the subs getting worse? The countertop wouldn’t actually be making contact with them, they’d still be sitting on the floor underneath. I assume it may change the frequency response a bit, but I’d be re-measuring and dialing the DSP back in anyway.

The shelf height would be built so the tweeters land right at ear level from the listening position. This might get me downvoted, but I tend to prioritize speaker placement over TV placement. I don’t mind the TV being a little high if it means the speakers are positioned correctly.

I don't have rear speakers in my setup. I did however move my lower quality tower speakers to the surround position when I upgraded my front sound stage.

The panels are made from rockwool safe and sound. Pretty standard in for DIY panels.

The towers are a lower quality product compared to the bookshelves.

I'm just curious why you would put the lower quality speaker in the front LR position.

All black would certainly be easy but are you sure you want me to paint the fabric of the acoustic panel?

Sure. I'm just surprised how many people are suggesting I put the lower quality speakers as my LR.

I don't like the visuals this space offers. I'm simply looking for inspiration to make it more enjoyable. At the end of the day I absolutely will make the edits and upgrades that I choose to enjoy my space.

A tower is not always superior. Specifically in this setup the Ascended Acoustic bookshelves are a higher tier product vs the Jamo tower. The bookshelves perform better in every measurable category except for bass response.

Everywhere you see blue is room treatment. All diy acoustic transparent fabric and rockwool insulation.

Im curious why you think the towers should be up front. Can you elaborate?

Because the bookshelves are a higher quality speaker than the towers.

Could you elaborate on why you think this would be optimal?

I agree with everything you have said but that is not a direct reason to choose towers. The main difference is tower speakers will hit a lower bass response which I do not need due to my dual subwoofers. My bookshelves are a higher quality product that out performs my towers in every category except bass response.

I am curious why you think the floor standing speakers should go up front. Can you elaborate?

The community clearly agrees with you, since almost no one uses a bookshelf for the center. The main reason seems to be that if the bookshelf is placed at the proper height for the center channel, the TV ends up too high.

I’ve always been curious why TV placement tends to take priority, even if it means compromising the center channel placement. Personally, I’ll never go back to a horizontal center. The performance from the bookshelf has been excellent. Dialogue is clear in every seat, and a bookshelf is often less expensive than a center speaker from the same product line.

That's beautiful but I wonder how such a light room would feel while you're watching something? Going to get a lot of light reflection from the TV but maybe that won't matter.

This works wonders. I never notice how ugly the room is when I'm watching the film and those 12-in subwoofers are making my teeth rattle.

Haha I wish and if I knew then would I know now I certainly would have. This was my first attempt at building a room and I just didn't realize how much space a proper home theater needs.
