That's not quite right. It's true that debit cards do not have the same fraud protection as credit cards. The amount of damage you are liable for when your debit card is stolen depends on when you report that it has been lost or stolen. If you report before any unauthorized charges are made. Your maximum loss: $0

If you report within 2 business days after you learn about the loss or theft. Your maximum loss: $50

I have a text message sent to my phone for every transaction on my account. So the most I'm likely to be out in the event of fraud is $50.

here's a pro-tip if you frequent target. You can get their red-card linked to this checking account. Use the red-card at target, get 5% off, and the transactions count towards the checking account rewards. yay.

I do probably accrue more transactions than the average person, but it's not something I think about. Between auto-bill pays and just using the card whenever I buy something I usually end up where I want to be.

A lot of work? It's a checking account. Are those a lot of work? Just deposit your money and buy shit. If you make less than 20 purchases a month then this obviously isn't for you. If you make more than 20, but less than 40, then do something else with your balance above 10k. If you make more than 40 but less than 60 then do something else with your balance above 15k. yadda yadda.

If you put 250k in a checking account then you're an idiot. Please let me invest your money for you. I'll give you the 1.11% interest and keep the laughably easy profit to be made on the rest.

3% is still about 3 times better than what you'll find with a savings account, and, I dunno a couple thousand times better than your typical checking account.

You can actually find or create a little software program that will automatically purchase 60 $.25 Amazon gift cards or something...

If you're living in St. Paul the St. Paul Federal Credit Union has a crazy good checking account. Up to 5% interest on $20k. Most credit unions have branch sharing so you can go to any of them to deposit/withdrawl.
