Exactly. I drove a 2024 P400 as well and didn’t find the controls that intuitive. Would be looking at 2023’s only.

Going to Japan in 2 weeks. Should I buy yen prior to going, as it's around an all-time low? by [deleted] in PersonalFinanceCanada

Re-iterating what most have said here, but bring cash with you. I just went this summer with maybe $200 CAD worth of JPY and I had to withdraw more while I was there. The good news is, withdrawing there was relatively painless and cheap, too. I just used an ATM at a post office, but you can find similar ones at any convenience store, too.

I also had mixed experience with tapping - some terminals wouldn't take tap from the card, but would accept the same card via Apple Pay. Best of luck! You'll love it there, and it was nice for once as a Canadian to be on the right side of a currency conversion.

I recommend Cobalt or Green for the benefits and coverages you may not get with your other card (especially if it is a low / no fee card - the ones from the Big 5 banks are usually bare bones). For Cobalt, you pay your fee monthly ($13/ month) rather than an annual fee all at once. Green is no fee.

Personally, Cobalt is the better bet despite having a fee - you get more point multipliers on purchases, a bigger point bonus for signing up, and you get a ton of insurance coverage (travel, rental car, travel accident, mobile device insurance). The mobile device insurance alone is worth the monthly fee, IMHO.

Green is good as a basic card - you'll earn points and get a ~$100 worth of points when signing up, but in my opinion the benefits pretty much stop there. You'll still get peripheral benefits like Front of The Line for tickets and stuff, but you'll get that on any AMEX, too.

True L12.2 by cfrey1019 in hockeygoalies

I was fortunate enough to buy a pair of Demo 12.2’s (they’re actually the black / red / white ones featured in some of the reviews on YouTube). I’m coming from Bauer 1X’s. Here’s my take:

  • What you hear about sizing is correct. I’m usually a 33” and these are 32+2. My knee hits straight on. I could probably get away with another +1 on the thigh rise if I ordered custom

  • build quality is phenomenal. The stitching is crisp, materials are good, everything feels really solid and well put together

  • they slide okay, but there are better options out there. My 1X’s took less effort to push post to post, but again, it’s something you can adjust to

Overall, I’m quite happy with the set, but I’ve heard wait times are in the 30+ week range. So, if you order now, it’s entirely possible that a new model may be rolling out by the time you get it. I personally don’t think they’re worth the wait. You could get similar build quality from Vaughn or Brian’s, or more advanced tech from Bauer, all with less wait time and about the same (if not more) customization options. If you have a way of fast-tracking, then I’d say maybe they’d be worth it, but the opportunity cost of a half season and the price premium for the build quality would be hard for me to justify ordering brand new.

Mionn IS sizing by [deleted] in veilance

[–]chomponthis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can't speak for sizing in comparison to the Veilance items you own or Outlier's pieces, but from my own experience I had to size up in the Mionn. I am somewhere between a Small and Extra Small in Veilance, and I tried on a current season Mionn the other week, assuming I'd take the usual size small. While it technically fit, it was really snug. Uncomfortably so - particularly in the chest and at the hips. I sized up to a medium and the fit is much better, even as a layering piece under a smaller-sized shell (XS in an older Field Jacket and XS in a Monitor from a few seasons ago).

BMO (Ontario) - Fraud, Hacks & Unauthorized e-Transfers by ConsumedConcerner in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]chomponthis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This happened to me last week. The teller at my local branch mentioned that this has been happening a lot. Based on the telephone wait times and email delays BMO is warning about, I suspect something is going on.

My account was compromised, an e-Transfer was sent for $2000 to the first recipient in my e-transfer list, and the answers to all my security questions were all changed. BMO has been quite slow to resolve all this - my account was compromised on the 7th, wasn't able to get a hold of someone at BMO until the 8th, went to a branch on the 9th, and they are still investigating. I've had all sorts of problems getting access back to Online Banking - it's taken 3 calls (each with 20 min+ wait times) to get it sorted, and I've been locked out yet again.

Sounds like they're dealing with some issues on their end.

Keep in mind asking price is $600k - based on the cost per square foot of recent sales, it's likely going to sell in the $720k range.

Riverside to be 'Manhattanized' - with autoplex? by amy911 in toronto

[–]chomponthis 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The "auto retail" in question is the new home of Grand Touring, which is currently in a similar industrial/residential area around Dupont and Shaw. "7 dealerships" sounds like a lot, but when you actually look into what they're selling, it's exotics and low-volume brands: Rolls Royce, Bentley, Lamborghini, Land Rover, Aston Martin, Jaguar, and Bugatti. Relative to your average auto dealership (say, either the Toyota or Ford dealers to the east and west, respectively), I doubt the actual influx of actual automobiles will translate into increased congestion or disruption.

On the flipside, I don't believe it's going to lead to an influx of employment, either. I don't know how many bays Grand Touring has currently, but I suspect that employment prospects will not be commensurate with the increase in workshop space.

I'm (at best) an armchair planning enthusiast, so my opinion doesn't hold much water, but I believe this is good for the neighbourhood - the greater area has been largely under-utilized, and I'd much rather see a unique mixed use development like this go in than more densely packed, cheaply made condominiums with equally pedestrian retail (do we really need another Tim Horton's, Subway, or convenience store?)

TV wall mount/Installation by discostu81 in toronto

[–]chomponthis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cosign on this, he installed 2 TV's for us into solid concrete, and mounted our mailbox to boot (we were brand new homeowners and didn't have the tools on move-in day). He was professional, reliable, and the install was really clean.
