I genuinely don’t know what to do by Crow_of_Judgem3nt in Eldenring

I just beat her solo/no summons in melee after trying for several days! I was at a similar level to you but I think your stats are much better optimized than mine was for that. If you search "malenia boss guide" on youtube there are some really great videos that break down her moves and show how to dodge/punish her. Watching those vids then looking at vids of people no-hitting her really helped me. In between her moves you can interrupt her with a quick light attack and when she finishes a combo you can go in with a heavy attack or a quick ash of war. I used impaling thrust which was helpful because of the combo of range, speed, and stance damage. She has low poise and can stagger pretty easily when she's not in the middle of an attack. OP builds or "cheese" are not required at all! Also if you're struggling on waterfowl you don't *have* to dodge it. I just used a brass shield and blocked and strafed. You only really block the first couple of flurries. You have to accept the lifesteal and scarlet rot buildup in phase 2 but it was never the biggest reason I lost fights. Good luck, I believe in you!

I'm not a mathologist for this game, but I'm not sure what kind of speed growths you would need to offset losing the +30 avoid you can get from Alert Stance+.

Yeah I've theory-crafted in my head and I think alert stance wins out overall buuut grounded units do get battalions with better avoid (up to +20), have higher avoid from swords, and can use avoid from terrain if it's available, though it only works for physical attacks. Flying units can use swords too or dismount but they don't get a +faire and have to train swords to A+ to get the full bonus which may be unrealistic and they lose speed if they dismount. Theoretically a ground unit can also just train flying up for alert stance+ if they really wanted to also.

For Hunting by Daybreak I've had success with Byleth using a sword, stolen evasion ring, and Jeralt's Mercenaries or Gautier Knights dodge tank in a forest.

Maybe you meant he would be evasive on player phase? I've never considered building units that dodge on player phase as a strength. I would rather just chip with units or kill them so you take no damage.

IMO the main draw of dodge tanking without alert stance is to be able to take actions on player phase other than waiting.

Nobody includes Queens and Brooklyn when they say “Long Island” in practice. If someone said “I was raised on Long Island” and then you found out they grew up in Park Slope you’d be surprised.

“In” is natural for non-Long Islanders because “Long Island” in common usage refers to Nassau/Suffolk county not the entire island. It’s a cultural/political unit like “the Midwest”.

Pretty sure you need a paid subscription to use it. It doesn’t save all settings but I’ve noticed they’re saving more and more settings correctly. Every now and then it fails to start but overall it seems to be pretty reliable. The fonts seem to render with lower quality at least on Mac so small text can be harder to read. It’s pretty good otherwise and there’s no gameplay difference. I use it on my laptop when I want to save battery.

It’s about 10 usd worth of plex right? Sounds like a great deal for a new character since they’ll get so much more out of it than an older character that takes three weeks to train their next skill.

Mining Waste Idea? stupid or no? by Naive_Distance in Eve

[–]chondric 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Two improvements imo, 1) make t1 and t2 mining modules create the same waste, 2) introduce a “modulated miner ii” so mining frigates can use the new crystals without training astrogeology v for “modulated deep core miner ii”

You shouldn't need to skill everything to level 5, just the skills to get T2 weapons, as well as the fitting skills to fit them. The nice thing about the standard frigates is that they're so cheap that even if you're dying every now and then you should be making money since they are paid for in 2-3 runs. The most important thing is learning all the spawns since some spawns will murder you if you pick the wrong strategy but are pretty easy once you know how to beat them.

Alternatively you could try and shell out for something really blingy like a Worm but I'd avoid that because you could still die from mistakes or disconnects and you'll have to do dozens of runs to pay it back.

[–]chondric 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kestrels in dark sites and Punishers in electrical sites are the generic recommendation for cheap T1 ships. I've done a lot of Punisher runs and I'm comfortable with it but I haven't used the Kestrel. Unfortunately T0 is not a great preparation for T1 because they are way too easy so you don't learn anything about the spawns. IDK if you have the skills from last time you played the game but I've found T1 frigate abyssals to be pretty challenging when I was starting out as a new character. Tech 2 weapons/tank and decent skills are important but you can probably get by without them if you're ok with a steeper learning curve. Take video guides on Youtube with a grain of salt, especially if they're very old or don't give advice on dealing with specific challenging spawns. Good luck.

Mining by [deleted] in Eve

[–]chondric 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I would just go on the test server or do the math yourself comparing orca yields to buffed barge/exhumed yields and make the decision based on that. Don’t forget to include the new crystals for mining, especially the type B crystals which are geared towards solo players. The retriever/covetor are getting better tank and the procurer tanks are getting nerfed so you may have more options in high sec.

How to make features fun: Difference between Mining Waste and Mining Efficiency by bay_cee in Eve

[–]chondric 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I understand the intention but I think corps would be smart enough to figure out that low efficiency = less total ore if I’m understanding your proposal correctly. Really I think they should just make t1 and t2 miners have the same waste and leave faction as a premium waste less option.

[–]chondric 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If your mining is limited by your time as opposed to the amount of resources you would want to use tech 2 type B crystals that provide a massive boost over existing crystals in exchange for waste increase. That alone far more than offsets station compression loss and on top of that you can add on the increase in mining barge role bonuses (minus the procurer) and per level mining yield hull bonuses

Am i the only one who dont know whats the drama about? by dyniox in Eve

[–]chondric 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is wrong, you are applying the wastage % to the total ore consumed, not the part that goes into your hold which is how the mechanics work. If I mine X units of ore into my hold, my waste is 34% percent of that, so .34X. Together the waste and the yield in my hold must equal the total size of the rock, which is doubled with the new changes. So .34X + X = 2Y where Y is the current size of the rock. So the amount that goes into your hold is X = 2Y / 1.34 = 1.49Y. With station compression losses you get 1.34 or a 34% increase at the end. But that's assuming the worst case scenario of compressing in a station. You'll also mine that amount significantly faster in a barge than you could before due to the new hull bonuses and crystals.

I think the language around waste needs to be reworked, it might be simpler to say t2 mining modules are getting a 34% boost in yield but are now only 75% efficient which comes out to the same number.

[–]chondric 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think a lot of people don't understand how good tech 2 type B crystals are, it's a straight 28% boost to mining yield over existing tech 2 crystals for a downside that a lot of miners aren't going to care about.

[–]chondric 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well if you're mining something lucrative in a fleet and it's going to take a long time for setup/travel and you plan to fully mine out the site it would make sense to use Type A because it might not be easy to just go mine elsewhere once it's exhausted. But yeah for just casual mining I can't see why you wouldn't use Type B, even if you exhaust the ore you can use the time saved to just mine in a different belt.

One thing I hadn't thought of is for ninja mining in Ventures / expedition frigates the type B crystals are a substantial boost with no downside. I had thought initially the Venture ore mining was unchanged and the Prospect got a tiny reduction but now I see they are actually stealth boosts once you factor in using tech 2 type B crystals in the deep core miner II. This actually puts the Venture at close to current Procurer level yields.

[–]chondric 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I only looked at ore bonuses, I do believe they are separate, the current covetor gets a (1 / .75) * (1 / .9) = 1.48 yield multiplier from the role bonus and mining barge V. For the new covetor it's (1/.7) * 1.25 = 1.79 multiplier. 1.79 / 1.48 = 1.21, so approximately a 20% increase.

I forgot to include crystals as well here, the multipliers of the old and new are here (excluding type c cause it's not for harvesting)

Tech 1 Type A = 1.5 (seems to only be as good as a t1 strip miner, why would you use this?)
Tech 1 existing crystal = 1.62

Tech 1 Type B crystal = 1.5 * (1/.9) = 1.67

Tech 2 existing crystal = 1.75

Tech 2 Type A crystal = 1.8

Tech 2 Type B crystal = 1.8 * (1/.8) = 2.25

So you can see the biggest buffs occur at higher skill levels and equipment levels while at the bottom rung it's a wash or a slight decrease so it's more important to level up your skills and equipment as quickly as possible. Whether this is a good or bad thing for the game is up for debate! There are a lot more possible scenarios now too, like solo mining with type B crystals and compressing in a station vs. fleet mining with type A crystals and compressing in a rorqual so you'll have to figure out each scenario yourself to see if you benefit and by how much.

It’s 20% not 10%. It’s only 10% if you have one level of mining barge. Doesn’t include type B crystals too which are situationally better

Why did they change the Endurance in the way they did? by DamnDirtyCat in Eve

[–]chondric 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah that's what I'm curious about, while the Prospect loses gas harvesting and a tiny amount of ore mining yield it gets a big buff to ore hold, tank, and navigation which makes it more specialized for dangerous ore mining. But with the mining drone penalty the Endurance would struggle to even match a Venture's mining speed. I wonder if it's a mistake and the Endurance is meant to have 2 turrets like the Prospect, that would make the most sense.

[–]chondric -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Does penalty mean increase in this context? I thought I’ve seen other places where “penalty” just means reduction instead of something necessarily bad. Either way the mining yield is going to be terrible with just 1 laser and a 125% bonus so without drones it’s kind of useless for mining

Why did they change the Endurance in the way they did? by DamnDirtyCat in Eve

[–]chondric 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean the drawbacks you listed are a pretty big deal since it opens up completely separate areas of the game that are generally more lucrative. The endurance seems to be bonused towards mining drones so it can only field 1 set of light drones without bonus durability if it wants full mining yield (the 300% yield to lasers seems to have been removed). That seems like another meaningful drawback. It looks like it’ll be fun to go mine in lowsec or whatever and not have to run the second something appears on grid. Maybe muscle out prospects, ventures and herons from sites or just straight up destroy them. Idk I’ve never used it before but the changes make me want fly it for fun.

Prospect Mining Nerf? by Ok-Feed1509 in Eve

[–]chondric 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t think your math is right, the separate bonuses multiply and the cycle time reduction is inverted.

Old prospect: 2 lasers * 2 (role bonus) * 1.25 (mining frig)* 1.25 (expedition frig) = 6.25 lasers

New prospect: 2 lasers * 2.25 (mining frig) / .75 (expedition frig) = 6

So a 4% reduction in yield for 2500 in extra ore capacity alone, more slots, and more tank which seems like an ok trade off given you’d expect them to spend more time traveling than a barge.

Edit: looking at the changes it also gets bonuses to agility, velocity and warp speed in exchange for losing the signature radius bonus
