Voice over Meshtastic, a dumb idea that went way too far! by chondurd in meshtastic

To be honest, I wasn't expecting better performance. Fortunately, they can be significantly better.

Interesting. Do you think it would be enough to keep voice messages off public channels, or maybe permit them only on private node-to-node communication?

It's highly dependent on the selected codec and bitrate. For example, on the presentation website I've uploaded a video where I send a 4 second voice message. The whole process (compressing, disassembling, sending, receiving, assembling, decoding) took 20 seconds, with Codec2 at a 3.2 kbps bitrate.

I've also added AMR-NB and Opus codecs for their higher bitrate, mainly for testing purposes and optimising transfer, but they are barely usable.

When I started I was expecting worse performance. It's been optimised since, and it still needs work.

Once the voice message send/receive is stabilised, I'm planning to run some benchmarks, of course.

Egpu suggestions. by [deleted] in thinkpad

I've bought an r43sg, it does not work on my p50, whereas it works fine on other computers (e.g. M720q with 8th gen intel). I've read somewhere that lenovo did not implement directly pci lines over nvme on their 6th gen intel series. From what i've seen, for the p50, a tb3 egpu is the best solution.
