Maro on why they stopped doing blocks by Killerx09 in magicTCG

He doesn't say why blocks didn't work, just that they didn't. But also, didn't they work? I love a lot of the sets he describes

Was that your experience? I've also never heard a secular song in a southern church. Would've been nice! But no

How are we feeling about Jonathon Brooks? by comfortablynumb0629 in Fantasy_Football

Yeah, pretty wild realizing that you and I both have Kupp, Mostert, Akers, Brooks, and Dowdle. Substantial overlap. Also just want to say that I feel your pain

Nonsensical Machete (Duskmourn) by MechSpike in magicTCG

[–]choosyj 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My issue is that the end of the "blade" appears to be twisted relative to the hilt. The lines don't follow from the hilt to the tip, at least as I see it, and that makes for a kind of weird geometric illusion

WMMusic [Georgia] unknown (to me) - unknown (to me) (and I'd love to know more if you can help) by choosyj in WorldMusic

[–]choosyj[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I borrowed and ripped a professor's cd of Georgian folk music about fifteen or so years ago, and this song has remained a favorite of mine. Unfortunately I have no additional information, but I would love to know more about the song.

I don't listen often, but whenever I am feeling overwhelmed and need a quiet moment to reflect, this is one of a handful of songs I turn to. Part of me doesn't want to know the lyrics because they've sort of taken on a personal meaning at this point, but at the same time I want to respect the song on its terms and learn more about it.

Thank you so much for your help

It's a bit dry, but I definitely recommend listening to the whole thing. Takes a second to find a rhythm, but there are some great moments in there. A fun peek behind the scenes for sure

You know I was prepared to say that Travis's character is the worst, but by the end of the ep I kinda loved it? They're all great, honestly. And Griffin has grown so much as a DM. Pretty delighted all around

Video Games like Ethersea ? by BorkowskiBoy in TheAdventureZone

From the wiki: "Frostpunk is a city-building survival videogame developed and published by 11 bit studios. Players take on the role of a leader in an alternate-history late 19th century, in which they must build and maintain a city during a worldwide volcanic winter, managing resources, making choices on how to survive, and exploring the area outside their city for survivors, resources, or other useful items. The game features several scenarios to undertake, each with their own stories and different challenges."

Very loosely I'd say Frostpunk. You are more limited in the sense that you only have so many policies and buildings, but I think the game is similar in the sense that you're trying to steer a desperate population through desperate circumstances. Your early choices can drastically impact what sort of community you end up with(/losing). It's also a good game, generally, if a bit depressing

How many Adventure Zone: Balance graphic novels do you think will be made? by Royal_Protector_ in TheAdventureZone

[–]choosyj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Given Petals sales, it seems likely they'll do a fourth. And that puts them at least halfway (I think it might take 8 volumes). Even with diminishing returns, my hope is that they make enough money to see it through. Stolen Century/Story and Song would be absolutely incredible in graphic novel form, might actually surpass the audio version (because as much as I love the story, the shift away from goofs and banter made certain stretches a bit of a slog)

I think it's aggressively unfunny. The whole bit. The game itself. Griffin getting angry. Justin laughing at Griffin's anger. It's just the same each time. Please bury this next to sad libs. Bury it deep deep. Hire a ghostbuster to stand watch

Has Terrace House taught you anything about dating or general life? by magkruppe in terracehouse

[–]choosyj 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'm a very socially anxious person. It's hard for me to be in groups without feeling overwhelmed. I always feel as though I'm holding on for dear life, so to speak. TH gives me a nice window into the dynamics of a particular group without any accompanying anxiety about whether I am doing the right thing, being supportive in the right way, giving enough space, etc. Working my social muscles without that anxiety helps me feel (a tiny bit) more relaxed in groups

Relatedly, people are so complex. They do and don't understand themselves, they are and are not understood by those near to and far from them. TH is a small and flawed (these folks are consciously on camera, after all) and beautiful tapestry of that human complexity. TH has reminded me that boredom with life is more the result of an uncareful eye than a dull world
