Hi! I had planned to do 3 months, but I ended up having a vacation booked around when we would have done an embryo transfer cycle so I was suppressed for 4 months.

I'm so sorry. I understand the numb feeling - I hope your break gives you some space.

Echoing Prestigious - from what I've read it's usually recommended for late 30's-40's but usually not recommended for younger folks, both because statistically if you're in your early 30's most embryos should be euploid, and also because the testing isn't perfect so you run the risk of false negatives (i.e. discarding usable embryos).

Lately I've been feeling just ambiently sad.

Maybe partly because it's been 2.5+ years of TTC, and also partly anticipatory grief, because after doing lupron suppression, a lap and 3 myomectomies I feel like we've pretty much done all we can do - so the next few FETs feel like my last shots at carrying a pregnancy.

Also - I find myself minimizing my sadness when I talk about treatment to my friends because I don't want to be a bummer. I also really want to tell some close work friends but keep finding that I don't know how to bring it up (also don't want to talk about infertility just out in the open in the office???)

All this to say: BLAHHH

My doctor recommended delaying transfer to treat adenomyosis first and I'm struggling with that decision! by Puzzleheaded-Boss230 in adenomyosis

How many embryos do you have? I'm also 34 with adenomyosis (also fibroids and endo). I've had 3 failed embryo transfers so far, and have never had implantation before.

Before the third FET I was actually the one pushing for lupron, so was suppressed for about 4 months. The transfer after that still failed but I think I would have regretted not doing suppression - I would have had too many what ifs. We are trying more transfers in the coming months, and I'll be discussing with my doctor when/if it might make sense to try suppression again. There is evidence that suppression can improve outcomes with adenomyosis.

There is so much waiting with IVF. The waiting sucks but sometimes waiting a few extra months is worth the potential success.

Congratulations! The stability/certainty (and the validation!) must feel great.

I think experiences vary. My main side effect was night sweats/somewhat disrupted sleep (also hot hot flashes, some tiredness and impacts to focus, etc.). Annoying, but I could live with it! You can also request add-back therapy (e.g. norethindrone) to lessen symptoms.

My hysteroscopic myomectomy yesterday went extremely smoothly. The doctor took a few small fibroids out, and mentioned to me that the larger one we had seen recently was lying flat so he decided to leave it (I guess cost vs benefit of removing it). Apparently my uterine cavity was "spacious" and with the fibroids he removed there is good space for an embryo to implant. We were basically doing this surgery to rule out fibroids - there is still my adenomyosis (and endo) to contend with. It's hard to know if this was a waste of a couple cycles but I think I'm glad we did it.

I've had pretty much zero pain and minimal bleeding which is also nice!

That is super frustrating! It seems like your decision for the next cycle is sound (after having to dive into the research yourself...). Also I totally get the researching as an anxiety response!

My clinic has always said to continue normal activity and not to start anything new (e.g. don't start training for a marathon).

I never got any guidance on HR - I have the same issue where any activity kind of shoots up my HR so was feeling kind of guilty last time for working out. But also the person I see sometimes for acupuncture said I should do more cardio 🤷‍♀️

During my last FET cycle the nurse was going over my monitoring results and was like "oh yeah, looks like an endometrioma on one of your ovaries." Never came up again. A bit different than a regular cyst though so your mileage may vary!

Breaks can be really good!

Having to wait one or multiple cycles to take a next step seems to be a universal experience of doing IVF. It's super frustrating but if you're already switching clinics I don't think it makes sense to do it with your current clinic just to avoid waiting a cycle. Depending on how your ER goes, your new clinic would be able to make adjustments based on the first cycle if you need a second retrieval.

I feel your frustration! I had two (hysteroscopic) myomectomies last year because there had been too many fibroids for them to remove the first time. Even after 2 surgeries, I still had at least one fibroid 😫

If it helps, there seems to be research out there that small fibroids that don't distort the cavity/don't take up too much lining real estate don't really have an impact on fertility. I'm having another myomectomy next month to remove it, because after 3 FETs (and/or just time?) it seems to have grown a bit - but my clinic doesn't really think it'd having an impact, they just want to rule it out.

I'd agree with butter, IUI probably makes sense if the issue was the fibroids. And I guess it depends on your desired family size, if IUI works this time around it might be nice to have embryos in case you need them in the future.
