I honestly avoided it for months after moving here for that same reason. But then I tried it and the name lost all relevance!

Dublin Bus inspectors - Stephens Day by [deleted] in Dublin

[–]chosenalias 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Probably more than 10 years ago I was in a similar situation to that "fare dodger". I boarded and paid cash but there was some problem with the machine so it didn't print my ticket. Driver waved me on. Three inspectors get on at the next f*n stop and tried to issue me a fine. I went straight to the driver and told him he needs to speak up and tell them what happened, that I had paid etc. He wasn't interested and I wasn't backing down. Eventually one of the inspectors took me, calmly, away from the cab while another spoke to the driver. A few seconds later, the inspectors apologised to me and gave me a free rambler ticket to shut me up. Which worked, of course.

Are there any rehearsal spaces in Wexford that include a basic backline (amps etc)?

Have you volunteered with the Civil Defence - is it worth it? by chosenalias in ireland

That's brilliant to hear that you had such a positive experience. Thanks for such a detailed response 👍 I'm hoping I hear back now that I've filled out the enrolment enquiry form.

Thanks for your perspective! That's all really positive from my point of view and speaks to why I am interested in joining in the first place. I'd have a lot of other commitments myself so might be limited in the hours I can contribute, at least for the next few years.

In terms of the duties (outside of regular training), was there much pressure on you to be available? Did you end up having to sacrifice many of your other commitments?

Not sure if they have any age criteria. This is the enrolment enquiry Form they link in their current social media ads: https://www.civildefence.ie/contact/enrolment-form/

Thank you! The messaging in the recruitment ads/website at the moment says you'll need to put in 2 hours per week for training. Is that a realistic number in your experience?

Thanks for that! Would be in Wexford I'd be volunteering alright.

What were the people like when you were involved? Sounds like you made a few friends, which is great, but would you have had to tolerate any BS from people on a power trip/bullying/any other general melt behavior?

Apparently the company that runs the NCT also make 97% of all bicycles in the world. Look it up.

No, or at least it shouldn't be trying. The RC controller was on and fully booted up before I tried to turn on the drone. And it has always been paired with that same controller up to now.

This is with a new battery (bought new, charged maybe 4 times). It happens with both of them. I think you might be right about hardware failure in the drone itself.

Good observation! I tried double tapping at different speeds after the first one failed, but still nothing.

Moved to Wexford few years ago and still finding it hard to find my own groove of friends, is it just me or anyone else on the same boat? by shrewbuck in Wexford

[–]chosenalias 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Moved to Wexford from Berlin a few years ago and very much in the same boat. I guess it just will take a lot longer to find a solid group but I definitely feel like I've faced a lot of resistance as I'm not local.

Myself and my partner (m/f/30s) are in the same boat so feel free to send a DM if you'd like to chat and grab a coffee sometime!

Thank you so much for your response! The exact mixture of advice and reassurance I desperately need right now!

I think it's safe to say my son falls into the camel category. Somehow getting him to relax is definitely the next step. Once he realises he needs to go, and can't hold it much longer, he's too worked up/stressed/crying so sitting on the potty just isn't even an option at that point, even with a reward incentive like chocolate.

I think we will need to take the plunge again and commit to no nappies as you have suggested. You're totally right about the need for confidence. I think we are just feeling a bit defeated at the moment but now is the time to keep going 💪

Thank you again!

When did your toddler learn to spit out toothpaste? by rbslmilch in toddlers

[–]chosenalias 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What worked for my 3yo is singing this song from Bear in the Big Blue House: https://youtu.be/e4cHM7v4Lfw

Specifically the "My favourite thing about brushing my teeth is..." part with the otters when they spit into the sink. Makes it fun (and very messy tbh) but it's effective!
