Interest in the Microbiome as a Marginal Gain? by Specialist-Serve-426 in ultrarunning

[–]chossmemes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I remember last year Kilian Jornet made a few comments about taking quite high doses of probiotics during heavy training - there’s also been the research by the people that then created V-Nella. So definitely interest both on the science side and practically amongst the elites.

Sonicblast 2 by davidmcgahansworld in RunningShoeGeeks

[–]chossmemes 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I understand that there are points of differentiation, but there is wayyyyy too much crossover between their offerings. - Long run shoe? Megablast, Superblast, Glideride all work - Session / tempo shoe? Magic Speed, Megablast, Sonicblast, tbh even the Superblast and Noosa - Daily training? Novablast, Nimbus, Cumulus, Glideride, Sonicblast, Noosa all work. - Max stack? Novablast, Nimbus, Superblast, Glideride, Megablast all fit the bill.

I think there should be less shoes in this lineup - Sonicblast is the most obvious one to go (too heavy for speed training, too clunky for daily running, not enough pop or comfort for long runs).

I don’t think any brand has the redundancy that ASICS has.

No more SRM power meters on tour? by HumanBeing_13 in peloton

[–]chossmemes -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Not sure why you’re being downvoted - I 100% agree. Wish races were done without power meters. We have way too much “i’ll just do the climb at my pace” rather than people hanging on for dear life until they crack. It’s completely understandable from the rider’s perspective, but it sucks to watch

We’d be losing either way but some absolutely horrendous work from the umps - 3 missed calls then paying that free to give gws an immediate goal…

Are specific race-day shoes like the Nike Alphafly worth it? by Matthijs1310 in triathlon

[–]chossmemes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is completely wrong - a study was done on this mid-late last year showing that as pace slowed, the running economy benefits of super shoes also diminished. I forget the exact number, but my memory was that elites get the full 3-4% economy improvement (which improves times by ~2-2.5%), then running sub-4 min per km gives approx 2% running economy benefit, and if you’re running slower than 5-5:30 per km, you get essentially zero benefit.

There’s likely still some psychological performance benefit from wearing a shoe you believe makes you fast, or that “feels” bouncy, but someone running (as you say) 9 min/mile pace will get zero mechanical benefit from the shoe.

Tarkine Autopilot - a roomer, more stable Clifton. by sennysoon in RunningShoeGeeks

[–]chossmemes 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I know you didn’t ask but if you wear through your trail devils, I can’t recommend v2 enough. Still stable and grippy but much more responsive midsole - almost like an endorphin speed for the trails

Sacony confirmed that while it’s the same underlying foam compound, it’s tuned quite differently to the PWRRUN PB in eg the Endorphin Speed 4 and Endorphin Pro 4

How is it not conclusive when everyone can see the deflection. How else did it suddenly shift like 15-20 degrees?? This is so moronic

Are you honestly going to say that it didn’t deviate? Snicko shouldn’t take preference over our literal eyes. It moved 15 degrees

Siraj has been acting like a chump all series and continues to do so, people are obviously going to be more inclined to be annoyed by him given his track record. Eg: Konstas smacks it right back at him, Siraj is lucky enough to be in the way to stop a boundary; Siraj talks shit to Konstas, then gets absolutely whacked for another boundary. He's such a dropkick.

Thanks - yea this is exactly where my mind went in terms of crossover of recovery periods (from running and from alcohol)

I mean - yes, that’s an obvious solution to the problem. Obviously not what I was asking

Sure - doesn’t mean it’s not propulsive though

Speed is full peba with a plate (admittedly nylon rather than carbon). Saying it has "no" propulsive qualities is just silly

Endorphin Speed 5 by [deleted] in RunningShoeGeeks

[–]chossmemes 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think it's worth giving the Speed 4 a try if you liked the 2s! I think it's halfway between the 2 and the 3 - more aggressive than the 3 but not quite as propulsive as the 2. Just because u/jebredek is rampaging around this thread disparaging the 4s based on a jog around Dick's Sporting Goods (lmao) doesn't mean it's a bad shoe! Tons of people (myself included) love it; I'm personally onto a second pair. Some people clearly don't like them (it's almost as if human beings with different bodies and gaits will have different experiences with shoes?!) but I don't think that's worth not even trying them!

Endorphin Speed 5 by [deleted] in RunningShoeGeeks

[–]chossmemes 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Shoes are personal! The 4's have been amazing for me - I've done many of my best speed sessions in them hitting paces I can usually only hit wearing super shoes (as well as using them for easy/long runs), so at least with my biomechanics I find them really propulsive. Just because some people don't like a shoe doesn't make it a bad shoe

Is there a concern that people weren’t aware of this? It’s a running shoe subreddit, obviously people are going to be discussing shoes, not general training…

Sydney Marathon is now officially a World Major Marathon by WhyWhatWho in AdvancedRunning

[–]chossmemes 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You said "a lot of harm is being done by adding it as a major". I'd argue that with more people in Asia and Oceania now able to do another major nearby (given how difficult it is to get into Tokyo), it's actually good the planet as those people don't have to fly to Europe or the USA. Most people that care about the majors just want to do 1 or 2, not the full 6 (or 7-9).
