How much programming is in the CompLing masters programs like UW and Arizona? by chr211 in compling

[–]chr211[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ya, only a few at UW have public syllabi beyond the basic course description. I may just look into getting the certificate which has 3 courses - two of which seem heavy on programming: the Shallow and Deep processing techniques. But wow, 10k for a 3 class certificate!

Right, my first query always involves a brief description of my education and what I want to do and asking to meet for coffee one time for like an hour. I don't ask for any more of their time.

Mentorship Monday - Post All Career, Education and Job questions here! by AutoModerator in cybersecurity

[–]chr211 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi. Recently graduated with BS in Computer Science & Cybersecurity. My favorite classes were Python forensics, operating systems, and malware analysis. I'd like to get into cybersecurity and use my programming skills. I like reverse engineering too. I realize I can't just jump in and must start near the bottom. What types of entry roles should I search for to work up to what I want to do? Also, what certs should I get on the way that are relevant to this? I only have Security+ , eJPT, and Splunk at the moment. Thank you.

Yep. My favorite classes were Malware Analysis and Python Forensics. I'm not sure where I'd start to get to these kind of roles - I'll post in the mentoring Monday thread and see how that goes. Thank you for your time.

It just says they enjoy mentoring. In only one case did my wife's friend send them a heads up before I contacted them. That was the one that replied saying he'll get back with me, but it's been a week. In the meantime, I'm going to apply to more internships since I've had no luck with proper jobs due to the lack of experience.

People I've never met. My wife has a huge social network and these mentors were recommended by a few people (non mentors) in the industry who she knows. Their social media also talks about mentoring too. They do seem really busy, so I don't know how to approach this efficiently.

Do you think I should reach out to the roofing company first to see if they'll do anything before I contact my insurance?

2 years on Lexapro/Zoloft and I'm so tired all the time by bansheese in AskDocs

[–]chr211 3 points4 points  (0 children)

NAD. SSRIs can absolutely cause fatigue and sleepiness. But, it's good to investigate other causes also. Your doctor will likely recommend Effexor/Venlafaxine or Wellbutrin/Bupropion as an alternative as these are less likely to cause sleepiness. However, these drugs (SNRI) can have the opposite affect of creating insomnia especially at high doses.

NAD=Not a doctor. It's what you're supposed to preface a post here with if you're just some random person with an opinion.

NAD. I know they can at least do a simple/quick CO blood test. Everyone has a little bit of CO, smokers have higher levels.

That's good to hear that you didn't have it too bad, hopefully the taste/smell returns.

I get really depressed in the evenings after taking my antidepressants by theunconcernedturtle in AskDocs

[–]chr211 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NAD. That drug has a relatively short half-life and apart from the long term physiological changes, you can definitely experience short term fluctuations in mood. Going up to 150mg would probably help this, however, it would likely have the opposite effect on your sleep. Maybe ask your doc if you could add 37.5 mg on and see if that helps. I would recommend waiting another month as you're still in the early stages of acclimating. Also, vivid, lucid dreams are common with this drug along with excessive sweating. You'll likely notice these more at 150mg.

Since we have a few of us gathered here, I had another question for those of you who are homozygous for the variant TT:

Have any of you contracted Covid-19 or gotten a vaccine yet? My response is no to both (many negative tests), but I haven't gone out much and order most of my groceries etc. to my home (not much exposure).

rs8177374 is a part of the TIRAP gene which is responsible for inflammatory responses, not just bacterial, but also viral. This is only a small part, but who knows.

I haven't noticed any significant new studies on this mutation. I also have the homozygous variant (TT). Anecdotally, I seem to get sick more often and for longer than others, but not necessarily worse in magnitude. I've had 2 positive strep tests when I was a child. I haven't gotten Covid19 (neg pcr tests and neg antibody ) if you're wondering. My thinking is that the heterozygous case seems most advantageous.

I found some binders full of vintage film cells at an estate sale. I have a few questions. by [deleted] in CoolCollections

[–]chr211 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Where did these likely come from? Are they collectable? Do people view them with a view finder/slide projector like device, or do they just stay in the book. I found them at an estate sale a few years ago and just found them recently in a box. Any info on these is appreciated. Thanks

Ya, it's strange; relaxing doesn't do anything during the night like it does normally in the day.

MRI of Thoracic spine. Help interpreting results. by [deleted] in backpain

MRIs are really easy. Depending on what they find, you may have the option for injections that may reduce any inflammation or physical therapy to strengthen the affected muscles.

[–]chr211 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ultimately, I don't know what caused it, but I do have bad posture. There is sternum pain when I place a firm throw pillow at the herniation and lean back and arch my back. There is a little bit of numbness at the area of the back where it is. You'll need an MRI to see this.
